Batts' Chimney Services

Technicians called ahead and arrived on time. Inspection was performed using the latest technology. They provided a video of the interior of the flue along with still photos, to explain the findings. The technician provided suggestions for optimum use of two fireplaces. Very pleased after a bad experience with another company.

THEY DID A GOOD JOB

I booked the appointment approximately a month before the service and confirmed with the company 2 days prior. I took the entire day off that they were supposed to come, as they could not give me a definite time they would be coming. At approximately 4:20, they called and told me that they would not be able to come today and that they would have to reschedule. Exceptionally unprofessional.

They were a few minutes tardy but called to inform us of that, no big deal. They inspected both chimneys ($149 for first, $40 for second) and concluded they didn't even need cleaning, indeed, that doing that would just be taking our money without cause. They identified a crack that needed filling and took care of that with high temperature mortar ($30). Blanket placed in front of hearth before doing anything kept it all clean.

The people were friendly, professional, and informative. The cost was just a bit shocking.

The two men came to my house, highly recommended and lived up to there recommendations and reputation. I was impressed.

Went well. They were timely and courteous, clean too. Spoke well, explained everything well. In and out in a little over an hour.

Mark performed the visual roof inspections before I arrived at my home. He then performed the chimney sweeping, covering the floor area in front of the hearth with a blanket. Once the cleaning started he took the time to let the vacuum suck up all of the ash before moving down the chimney. This really kept all of the dust/soot down. Next he performed the inspection with a camera up the flue, which discovered we had mortar missing from the flue liner due to a chimney fire. All of the pictures were sent on an inspection report with an estimate of the repairs required. He wiped down the mantel and all of the furniture close to the fireplace and left it cleaner than he arrived!

Mark was through and professional. The process was clean, no dust or drt left. He got on the roof, performed an external as well as internal inspection, and repaired some cracks. He was prompt and courteous.

There was a one day delay in getting work done. They sent one man the first day and he look at the job and asked if I would delay the work until the next day as he felt he would be unable to safely perform the work by himself. The next day three men showed for the installation and it was satisfactorily completed in about 4 hours.

Have relied on Batts Chimney for many years. Mr. Batts found a good service provider in Mark. Very polite. Left us all cleaned up.

Mr. Batts and an associate came to clean my chimney as I have been having a problem with wasps. They were punctual and very professional. They discussed my problem with me and inspected my chimney cap as well. They were informative about what repairs I needed without being pushy on sales. I am continuing to work with them on installing a top sealing damper to help keep out the wasps. I found their services to be reasonably priced and the quality of their work to be excellent.

They did a great job. Quick. Clean. Very friendly and professional.

Price seems high for time involved and cap. Mr Batts showed me that they are using a heavy stainless steel cap and told me the one they used previously stained the chimneys. Price for this cap was $250.00. The price was a good deal higher than other times I've had chimney work done. They seemed knowledgeable, well experienced and were careful and pleasant which I appreciated.

Top notch experience. Mr. Batts, accompanied by a technician in training, inspected both of our chimneys. He determined that only one needed cleaning. I was concerned that the dampers might leak or that we needed covers to keep rain and birds out. Mr. Batts explained the situation which was not nearly as dire as I had thought. (Basically, we need to be more vigilant in keeping the dampers closed when the fireplaces are not in use.) He offered to install caps for the chimneys (but did not recommend, because of high cost and low benefit). Very professional and honest. Cleaning was quick and thorough.

Our chimney was never right from the time the house was built and couldn't be used because smoke wouldn't rise and would come back down into the house. I wanted to have a warm relaxing atmosphere when my son came home from school during the holidays but it was December and they were booked solid. They asked me if I didn't mind them coming out on the Sunday before the Christmas holiday they could fit me in then, no extra charge. The employee that came out to my house was extremely knowledgeable, professional and courteous as well as his helper. After assessing my issues they determined another day to come back out and perform the work, the work was very involved as they had to climb inside the chase but they remained so courteous the entire time. While here they determined my chase cap was rusted out and we needed a new one but the lengths we thought we would have to go to to obtain a properly working chimney were not even needed, it turned out to be significantly less than we anticipated. I was not as happy with the cost of the cap that was installed, but all the other services were very reasonably priced and performed perfectly. The end result was a working fireplace that hadn't been used in years and a perfect Christmas with my family. I would definetely recommend this company to anyone with fireplace draw issues.

Batts was great. They first found a solution to a separated flue liner and repaired it without the necessity of replacing the entire liner. I had had couple of multi-thousand dollar quotes to fix the chimney from others, and they fixed it for $600. Then I needed to replace some old gas logs with a log lighter so I could burn wood. In the process of installing the lighter they discovered a dangerous previous "repair" performed recently by another contractor. Since I wasn't home, they emailed me photos of the problem and explained the danger. They repaired the problem, installed the log lighter, and fixed the masonry on the floor of the firebox resulting from the gas log removal and lighter installation. Late that afternoon after they left we smelled gas in the house. We called the fire department, who shut off the gas and ventilated the house. We also called Batts, who came immediately (from their way out of town). They quickly found a leaky valve, which they had tested for leaks earlier in the day. The fireplace had not been used in years, and the valve failed after they had left. They ordered a new part, came back and installed it at no charge, and everything has worked great ever since.

This was my first time ever to have a chimney cleaned so I had no idea what to expect. They showed up a little later than I was expecting but after I saw what a good thorough job they did I understood why they were running late. These guys were as professional and nice as anybody I have ever delt with. They worked very well together and were very hard workers. After looking over the job from fireplace to roof they told me the same exact price as the estimate I was given on the phone when I made the appointment. They did not try and hard sell me anything extra which I was very suprised and pleased with. They put drop cloths everywhere and scraped and brushed my chimney and insert from top to bottom. They vacuumed up ALL the mess and reinstalled my insert exactly like it was. Absolutely the very best experience I have ever had with a company. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.

After complaining they agreed to take half off of the final estimate if we had the work done. The final straw was when my wife and I had to visit her surgeon for some pre-op work. We met with the surgeon for about an hour and was charged $75. Comparing the time of a surgeon who spent an hour with us to that of a fireplace "inspector" who spent maybe 15 minutes it's easy to see that something isn't right. I don't mind paying a fee for someone to come out and give me an estimate but I was NEVER told it would cost me to have an estimate done. The whole thing reminded me of all these heating and air deals where they want to come out and do an "inspection" just to get your money. My advice - before getting an estimate ask if it is free. If not you will be surprised! I was disappointed in the fact they were not up front with me. After this, I sent them a note asking for a revised estimate for installing the damper (I had a painter refurbish the chimney cap for $125). I never received a response.
