Building a new out building for a wood shop. The location needed some excavation back into a hill to come up with a level area large enough for the 16'x20' footprint and 6' perimeter area for the installers. The work seem to grow as we moved back into the hill; we ended up using close to 80 railroad ties to shore up the back and sides for the site. We also decided to "bury" the power feed from an existing power pole so a change was made to the original contract. While digging the trench, came across a significant piece of "Shelby County Gold (chert!)" which posed its own challenge. Mother nature proved a bit fitful with Spring rain to really soak down the newly exposed dirt; delays were unavoidable but Heath stayed with it and we were able to get a level building site and a wire ready power conduit before the builders arrived to start construction. All of this being said, Heath did a great job on what started as a seemingly easy request but turned out to be a more complex project with multiple challenges. We are very pleased with his work, his work ethic and attention to detail. Any future grading or excavation work will definitely be pointed in Heath's direction.

Response from Dirty Heath's Bobcat/Excavator
You Said you had to have that job completed by a certain Date. I told You that that was not possible for me due to scheduling. I did not see any reason to provide an estimate for a job that I could not meet the scheduling for. I receive a lot of messages to look at jobs cant respond to every little detail. You also indicated that you did not want to spend the kind of money necessary to do the project in our conversation so I thought you were not interested.

The ONLY reason this experience is not rated all As is the slight delay in the work. My initial work date was pushed back and that resulted in wet conditions the days the work was done. Had the work been done on the initial date when conditions were dry, the job would have been completed in one day and the wait time for "curing" would have been shorter. I found Heath both professional and pleasant. I'd certainly hire him again.

Heath and Marvin were prompt and very professional. Work was completed over several days as weather was an issue and the grade was very steep. We were very pleased and are looking forward to working with Heath again. He is going to build a boulder staircase for us to access this area more easily and will grade an area in the front yard where we cut one of the trees.

Heath (& Marvin) arrived promptly at the agreed upon time. He was professional in his demeanor. He surveyed the grading of the landscape and gave me an honest opinion of what could and couldn't be done in a cost effective manner. I appreciate that he was honest in his analysis and provided me with a cost effective option even though it meant he did not get the job. Should the need for extensive excavation arise in the future, Dirty Health's Bobcat/Dump Truck/Excavaction company will be at the head of my call list.

Heath and his crew arrived on time and were very professional. They cleared the wooded area at the rear of my property. Now all I have to do is put grass seed down. They did a great job and the price they gave me was very reasonable and was half of what the other estimates I received. I would highly recommend Heath and I am going to use him in the future.

I've had Heath do work for me before, so I called him when my tenant reported the washing machine drain was backing up at a piece of rental property. He came out and gave me an estimate and then built the field line for me (the previous drain had been broken by tree roots when it was downed in a storm). Afterwards he kept in touch until we were sure the line was working properly to resolve the drain issue. I've been very pleased both times I've used Dirty Heath. He's very professional and always wants to ensure that his work is satisfactory and that your problem is resolved.

Very well, we now have a beautiful grass lawn. The project became larger than originally anticipated as there was more lot preparation required to get a quality landscaped lot. Rainy conditions proved difficult for the sod farm to cut the sod required and there were last minute changes of sod vendors to get the installation completed in a timely fashion. The cleared area proved too large to completely finish with the sod ordered and some side areas were filled with pine straw pending "Phase 2" of our large lot improvement project. We are very pleased with the work ethic, promptness, and pleasant demeanor of Dirty Heath. We will be using him again as we move forward with the major lot improvement project on our property. He can do just about anything with his large skill set, and that was a real plus on this project.
Description of Work: We just moved into an older property that is situated on an approximately 1.5 acre wooded lot. We had a large neglected front yard area with minimal grass, many weeds, overgrown trees, and brush that required extensive preparation prior to installing new sod. Heath evened out a very rough, rocky, bumpy area by excavating and leveling with fill dirt and top soil. Nearly 100 yards of fill dirt and top soil were trucked in that Health spread and used to create a very smooth lawn surface. He located a long lost "sprinkler system" and made repairs to pipes and sprinkler heads to maintain the new lawn. He also cleared brush overgrowth and old trees to restore the estate size lot to a condition that would accept 10 pallets of new sod. His crew installed the new sod and finished around trees and wooded areas with pine straw.

I called Heath for an estimate on bobcat work to level two areas in our small back yard, one for an above ground pool and the other for a play set with a slide. He visited our site, and after discussing the project and learning of his background as a professional builder we decided to hire him for the excavation as well as leveling with a transit, the construction of a retaining wall, material hauling and tree removal. He was prompt, courteous, responsible and professional throughout the entire project. The quality of the work is excellent and we could not have found a better person to work with. He was a very hard worker and able to complete the work ahead of schedule before rain set in. There were a few changes that we made as we went, and this was not a problem at all. Overall a great experience and I would not hesitate to recommend him and will be calling him for any future work as well!

Heath is very professional. Working with him to get the results I wanted at a reasonable price was a very positive experience. Heath and I met at the property at the time we agreed upon, and we discussed all the work I wanted to do on the property (this is a 6 acre property I recently acquired for rental and recreational purposes). My immediate priority was getting downed trees removed and filling in the swampy areas created by the root balls to make mowing and/or bushhogging possible. He suggested that it would save me money if he burned the trees instead of hauling them off (an option in the rural setting with acreage, no zoning and the very wet weather we've had). He would still have to cut them up and move them to a safe burn site at the back of the property as they were near the house and power lines. Heath showed up as scheduled and proceeded with the work in a timely manner. He had the equipment that was appropriate for each phase of the job. When he finished filling the holes, he called me to tell me that it was just too wet to get the grading done to his satisfaction and suggested that I hold back some of the payment until it dried out and he could return to complete the grading work and cleanup at the burn site. I appreciated that he approached me with the problem and proposed a solution that was fair to me. It certainly wasn't his fault that we've had so much rain and it was clear on inspection that he was being honest about the ability to grade the "mud" to my satisfaction. He had definitely done the very best possible with what nature had provided. I'm sure he would have preferred to finish the job while he was there (avoiding the travel time and expense of hauling equipment back out for a small job). But he didn't try to make excuses or get out of finishing the work we agreed upon. I will definitely call him again if I decide to move forward with the drainage work that I'd like to have done at the site.
Description of Work: Several trees that had blown over in high winds a couple of years ago (downed with root balls exposed) were removed, the large holes filled in and ground leveled so that mowing would be practical. The trees had been topped, but rootball and large trunks remained. One of the trees was a very large hardwood that created a swampy pond at the root ball crater. The work also included cleanup of a small junkpile site on the property.

The work that we were able to afford was completed professionally and completely. Everything that was agreed to was done and accomplished in the time frame established. We fully intend on having more work done in the spring, including a sprinkler system and some landscaping. Considering how many trees were actually removed (we estimated 50+), the price was fair for cutting and complete removal of the debris. Heath coordinated all of the work from start to finish and we are extremely pleased with the result. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Our 3-acre lot was in a disastrous state, with many trees dangerously close to the house. We wanted to have many trees removed, particularly those close to the house, and natural areas partially cleared. Heath coordinated with a tree surgeon and provided us with an estimate. Unfortunately, the job was going to cost more than we could commit to, so Heath and the tree surgeon helped us break the job down into (roughly) $5,000 "chunks" to see how much we could get accomplished. After Day 2, and seeing the excellent progress and professionalism, we went forward with the second chunk and we were able to clear most of the area near the house. Trees were cut down, stumps were ground, and everything was hauled away. The final cleanup included sweeping of the driveway.

Overall, we were very pleased. He was unable to begin on the original date he had stated because he was having problems with his bobcat. He kept us updated and it was about a week later that he was able to do the job. I feel it was worth the wait. He did a very good job and was a very nice person to deal with. The price he quoted was exactly what we paid him. I would certainly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: We had a very large area originally a flower bed. It became too hard to keep up. So we needed to find someone with a bobcat to remove all of it. He dug up the entire bed with his bobcat and hauled it all off. Including the bricks that trimmed the entire bed area.

Heath is pleasant and easy to work with. He does a very professional job and the end result was much better than I expected. He took the time to smooth and blend the work area into the contours of the hillside. He was careful not to disturb a landscaped area that was next to his work area. He offered suggestions on further improvements to the area.
Description of Work: My backyard is woods and we've had several large trees go down in the past couple of years. One or two were pretty close to the house and had been cut up into pieces. One tree had come up roots and all so there was a big hole where the roots had been. All of this mess was viewable while sitting at our kitchen table and was a big change from the nice woodsy view we'd had a few years before. Heath looked it over and gave us an estimate for hauling off the wood and filling in the hole left by the tree root. This area is on a hillside and the slope and vegetation made it difficult to do by hand. Some other contractors had doubted they could get a bobcat in and out without getting stuck or turning over. Heath showed up on time with dirt and a small bobcat-style loader. He filled in the hole, hauled out the wood, and sloped and smoothed out the area. He finished up by manually clipping and cleaning up the area. He hauled off a large dump truck load of wood, roots and other vegetation.

I called Heath and he came to the house to look at the work I wanted done. He called me back with an estimate. the weather was rainy and when the weather cleared off he called to say he would do the work the next day. He showed up at 9 a.m. when he said he would be there. He was driving a dump truck with the garden soil and pulling the bobcat on a trailer..He had the heavy equipment needed for the job. I think he was finished by 1:30 p.m. He loaded the bushes into our pick up truck and we drove them to Tuscaloosa from Hoover, Al. I was very pleased with his work and knowledge of how to handle the bushes with care.
Description of Work: I had 2 large Aldridge snowflake oakleaf hydrangea's (5-6 ft tall) to dig up, wrap for transport 60 mi to Tuscaloosa to plant in my yard. I also had 2 regular oakleaf hydrangea's (5-6 ft tall) to transport to Tuscaloosa. Heath has a bobcat that he used to dig up the plants. He brought a dump truck load of very good garden soil to put back into the holes, so that new plants could be put out later. I also had a sweet shrub bush I asked him to dig up to also transport . He did this with no problem. I would highly recommend Dirty Heath's Dirt Works. I will certainly call him again when I need work done.

Our experience was very positive. Heath and his crew showed up when they said they would be there, worked very hard and did a thorough clean up when they were finished. He was very good about communicating changes and other information as the job progressed.
Description of Work: Heath moved approximately 60 cubic yards of downed trees and three large stumps from our backyard to curbside. He was very careful not to damage our retaining wall or wood fence while maneuvering heavy loads with his skid steer through our back yard. He carefully stacked all of the timber curbside, minimizing damage to the sod of our front yard.
