This is an update to my original posting (provided below): Since my previous post, Plumbing and Heating Doctor has followed up with me directly, and cleared up my issues and concerns. After my post, Plumbing and Heating Doctor reached out to me immediately and set up a time to come out and take care of any issue that remained following my earlier plumbing and heating inspection, as described below. I understand that the technician that came out to do my plumbing and heating inspection was newly hired, and the owner of Plumbing and Heating Doctor, Tony, apologized and said he would absolutely stand up to his obligations and do whatever was necessary to make sure I was happy with his service. He showed up on time, fixed the shower fixture and even went through the plumbing and heating in my house to answer all my questions and give me advice about my home regarding routine maintenance. Although there were a few issues, it is clear to me that Tony is a very capable and skilled plumbing and heating technician, and more importantly, he is willing to stand by his word and takes his reputation very seriously. I also think that anyone can make mistakes, but what really counts is what they do to make it right and in this case, Plumbing and Heating Doctor did just that, so I decided to come back and revise my posting. I?d recommend Plumbing and Heating Doctor to anyone. Original posting: I purchased a Groupon in late November to have the heating and plumbing in my new home inspected by Plumbing and Heating Doctor ? I am a first-time homeowner. I called Plumbing and Heating Doctor a number of times, and no one ever answers the phone. After a few back and forths, and some calls that got no response at all, I finally was able to schedule my inspection around the end of December. Once the inspector finally showed up and got started inspecting my furnace, the hot-water heater, the garage heater and the plumbing in my home, it was clear he was very knowledgeable about the furnace, but he knew almost nothing about plumbing. From the way the conversation went, it seemed as though this guy was an apprentice, or just someone that was hired recently because he was having trouble keeping up with his work. I was disappointed that the inspector could not answer all of my questions about what kinds of regular maintenance I should do, or what things I should look out for as a first-time homeowner. I mean, what good is an inspection if the "inspector" doesn't explain what he's looking for, or if the plumbing is in good shape, bad shape etc.? Then the real problems started. I mentioned to the inspector that I had some issues with the showers - the hot water would only stay hot for a very short period of time, and then cool down quickly. He said he wasn't sure why, and it was probably something that Tony would have to look at. This was very confusing because it was as though he expected that Tony would be coming out in the future, or as if I would have to hire Tony to do a plumbing inspection.... when a plumbing inspection was exactly what he was supposed to be doing! He ended up saying he would have a look at it and he spent nearly an hour taking apart two of my bathroom shower fixtures. He was never able to figure out the issues, and he left my showers in complete disrepair. After spending nearly two and a half hours in my home and taking apart two shower fixtures, he said he would mention it to Tony, and that Tony would have to come out and have a look at the plumbing. It's been nearly a month and a half since that happened. I've called Plumbing and Heating Doctor several times, spoken to Tony maybe twice and tried to set up a time for him to come have a look and fix the problems his apprentice caused, but no luck at all. It has now been over a week since I last heard from Tony, which is very frustrating, despite a number of unanswered calls and at least two voice messages I've left for him. Every time I've talked to Tony since the inspection, he appears to have no idea what I'm talking about and I have begun to lose confidence that Plumbing and Heating Doctor will ever live up to his obligations and come fix the shower fixtures his apprentice ruined.

It's Friday January 25th and I noticed that there was no heat in my garage, so I get on Angie's List and look for a heating specialist. The first one that pops up is Tony, looks like he has great reviews so I call him up, answers right away and tells me he'll come and check it out at 2:45. He showed up early and spent about an hour trying to fix the furnace. He changed the igniter 2 times but it kept blowing up and he ran out of them, so he tells me that he will be back in an hour so with another igniter. He comes back about an hour and half later, replaces the igniter and it blows up again. He leaves and calls me telling me that he had been using the wrong type of igniter and that he would be back on Monday. I was not to happy about going the whole weekend with no heat. I waited all day Monday, he never showed up or called. I called him on Tuesday several times but he never answered his phone, so I left a message asking him to call me back, he never did. I call him again on Wednesday several times to no avail, left another message, but he never called back. He finally answered his phone in the afternoon and tells me he was very sorry but that his van had gone in the ditch and that he will send someone that afternoon to fix it. Nobody came and I never heard from him again. Very unprofessional, if he didn't want to finish the work on the furnace I wish he would have told me instead of wasting my time like he did.

Tony showed up right away, diagnosed the problem quickly/accurately and left with charging me far less than I expected. He called me at work immediately after fixing the furnace to reassure me that everything was repaired and that my family was warm. Household problems always seem to occur when you are not at home and it's comforting to know you can call someone who is knowledgable and will not over charge. A very personable company....

This was simple project and everything went well.

The technician was thorough and took his time inspecting the systems as well as cleaning what needed to be cleaned.

Tony arrived on time, and informed us of the progress throughout the day. Our heating system was not keeping the temperature consistent throughout the zones. I thought it was thermostat related but Tony quickly traced the issue to a relay issue in the valve system (a less expensive repair). We still had all thermostats replaced with programmable ones and the system is already saving us money and heating evenly. Tony also had our water tested (we are on a well) and confirmed that our water was hard (very hard). Since we have a large household he recommended a more expensive system than we had originally considered but his research proved right. He quoted us a price for the water softener with and without installation but we chose with installation. Tony called about 2 weeks after all of the work was done (took four days to complete all of the work) to confirm that eveything was working without issue. His estimates were spot on and we are very pleased with the work. We recommend him as he did a great job, cleaned up the work area, made reasonable recommendations for our consideration without being pushy, and has reasonable rates. Tony is our new go-to guy for plumbing and heating issues.

Of the several contractors I requested bids from, Tony was in the mid-range, but he seemed to have the most integrity, and took the time to explain the differences in the various types of furnaces available. As a result, I was able to make an informed decision about what type of furnace to install. He was committed to completing the job in a timely manner,since our Alaskan winter was fast approaching. I learned that things take longer here in Alaska, due to the distance one has to drive just to pick up a part..it can take half a day just to find and pick up a missing or broken part! Tony's regular employee was sick the day he started the job, so rather than delay the start, he brought in a friend who was out of work to help, which turned out not to be a great idea. Tony couldn't get as much done that first day as he had expected. His regular employee was back to work the next day and things moved along after that. Tony notified me when there were delays due to obtaining parts.He had to make a few trips into Anchorage, which added at least a day to the job. He told me up front that he was busy inspecting furnaces in preparation for the winter, but that he'd complete the job as fast as he could.

Tony is extremely professional, courteous and friendly. He ALWAYS answers his phone or returns phone calls immediately. There was some delay in getting the correct parts due to problems on the manufacturer's side. He ended up getting a much better system for us from a different manufacturer, but because he felt bad about the delay, he charged us only what he had initially said he would charge for the first system. He was great from start to finish and I would definitely recommend him and use him again for any heating or plumbing issues.

The job went well although Tony needed to make trips to plumbing suppliers to purchase additional ducts. This happened because, although most ducts were already stacked in the crawl space from prior purchase, the job needed to progress in order to determine how many more ducts were needed. Cleanup to remove old flexiduct was successfully done on a separate day.

We had a great experience. I was really impressed with Tony. We had an appointment at 11, and he called me right then to inform me he was in a car accident. We rescheduled. When he came, he was very thorough and professional. He was able to help me with things around the house and gave me tips. He is very helpful. He came back the next day to wrap my pipes. He did not charge me anything for it. He is very very nice. I referred them to a friend and already. He was very professional. He was also very clean as well. I will definitely call them again.

He came on time, listened to me and answered all the questions so that I could understand. He also gave me helpful advice.

On June 26th the initial inspection of my furnace, which was inoperable, revealed that the Combustion Motor had worn out. I agreed to have Tony order that part and then install it. I paid 50% of the estimated cost at that time, $230.71. On July 24th Tony returned with the motor and installed. He also provided me with two furnace filters and a thermostat for no charge. The original thermostat had shorted out during the installation. He also installed a 3"x4" reducer, which was an additional charge. So my cost on this day was $242.11. Tony was always polite, prompt, tidy, helpful, and professional. I have accepted a quote for Tony to perform additional work on my furnace system next week.

Tony was great - very professional and helpful. He answered all my questions courteously. All the work was performed and all systems are a go. He went above and beyond what I expected. I have every confidence that the heating and plumbing systems are operational which is a secure feeling!

Tony came right over when my water heater broke and spewed water all over my garage. He arrived within 10 minutes of my call and explained everything very throughly. It was a Saturday and he still had my water heater totally replaced within two hours. I honestly couldn't believe how professional, quick, and wonder he made the whole process. I will definitely recommend him to all my friends and neighbors and use his company whenever I have plumbing needs.
