I contacted Jason at Pioneer Peak Asphalt in early June and was initially impressed. He was punctual for the estimate on my driveway, had a competitive price, and appeared both knowledgeable and competent. I happily wrote the check for the 25% deposit despite him telling me he couldn't get to my driveway until mid-August. That was the last time I heard from him. I tried to call the first week of August to set the date and clarify on herbicide application. Jason wouldn't answer his phone, and it was hit or miss with his office manager Janelle. She assured me and quot;he said he'll get to it next weekand quot; pretty much every week until the asphalt plant closed in late October. I asked for my deposit back on October 22nd, and ended up having to drive out to Wasilla to go get it 10 days later because it never came in the mail as promised. The recurring theme of my experience with Pioneer Peak was empty promises and poor communication. If he had told me up front in June that he didn't have time, I could've had someone else do it instead. He refused to return my calls, even though I was very patient and understanding with the constantly shifting timelines- at the end of it all, I still have not had any contact from Jason after the initial estimate. They never contacted me about the work either, I was constantly having to call and ask for updates. I would strongly recommend either avoiding this company altogether, or negotiating a specific date up front with compounding discounts for pushing off the timeline.

Pioneer Peak paved our drive about eight months ago. They were very thorough with the prep work so the base was flat and well compacted. The drive and parking area have different slopes, and the workers put a lot of effort into getting the grade right. The first time it rained, I could see why they fussed so much. Drainage is just about perfect. At most there might be 1/8 inch standing water in a couple places in the parking area. The asphalt hardened up well, and after 8 months I can not find any defects. We were very pleased with their work - should have had it done years ago.

The job was overall done well but I had to wait over 12 weeks for him to do the job. He never made contact to say why I was waiting so long but was very polite and apologetic when ever I called him. He seems to put contractors first

We hired Peak Ashpalt to pave our home driveway. We were told that our job would be done by the first week of June. Around June 20th after many, many calls to them, we were finally told that it would be at least another 4-6 weeks before they could get to us. At that point we fired them and canceled the contract. It took the threat of legal action to get our deposit back! Just another company that over promises and under delivers! The fact that when it came time to do our project and they stopped returning our calls shows how they treat customers. In case you were wondering, the weather during this entire time was clear and dry...no reason to get so far behind schedule so early in the season. Stay away from this place!

Explained situation to Jason, the owner, who couldn't have been more sympathetic. Even though it is a near-daily headache, he convinced me not to spend a penny on a driveway we're only going to own for another two years (we're military). Explained that it is not a selling point and will not increase value of our home. Cost would be significantly cheaper if landlord of home next door would cooperate and split the cost of doing the entire driveway (and it needs it). Jason also explained that due to our location, materials would be more expensive. Although he did no work for us, I would not hesitate to recommend Jason for an estimate. He has a no-nonsense, easy going attitude and best of all, tells you the truth. That's exactly what I look for when I need a contractor. Thanks, Jason! Note: As a solution, I plan on xeriscaping our front yard with gravel and natural plants. The gravel will serve as an and quot;extensionand quot; of the driveway instead, and will be a fraction of the cost of a new driveway.
Description of Work: Bought a townhouse in Eagle River in Feb. 2012 with a shared driveway that narrows at the bottom. Neighbors (tenants) next door have the "larger half" and crowd our driveway with their vehicles/guests and refuse to accommodate us. Other neighbors in the culdesac, as well as city trucks, plow snow adjacent to our driveway during the winter, which eventually grows into a mountain and further complicates access to our driveway. Called Pioneer Peak to get estimate on ~5' extension to our half of driveway, as well as a quote for general upkeep/maintenance.

I was really worried paving so much driveway would prove too difficult and leave a lot of unevenness, lines, and low spots. None of that happened in the finished product. All 6,000 feet of my driveway is seamless and even. What really impressed me is that they paved two of my next door neighbor's house on the same day. Which is amazing is because it looks like they spent all day on mine. I would recommend this company and used it again for these particular reasons: 1. I was given good advice that saved me hundreds of dollars. I was going to install underground PVC pipes to drain water away from house and driveway and into the ditch. Instead, they just added a very slight slope to the driveway to move water away from the house. 2. I got way more than I paid for. I was quoted for 2and quot; D1 gravel and 2and quot; asphalt. The gravel is on average 4and quot; and 8and quot; at its highest point. There is as much as 4and quot; of asphalt along the perimeter of the house in some areas. They also made the entrance of the driveway 2 feet wider to make it more aesthetically pleasing free of charge.3. The quality of work is superb.
Description of Work: Bought a new house in a brand new subdivision in Wasilla, AK before house was 100% finished with construction. Driveway had not been paved yet when we moved in. House is located in a cul-de-sac and driveway did not align at all in a straight line from the garage to the street. The driveway was actually angled about 60 degrees leading from the street to the entrance of the garage door. To make matters more challenging, the lot was shaped more like a triangle and not a rectangle. So I had a small front yard but a large backyard. So pulling out of an angled driveway would be very challenging during winter times. So I decided to just pave the entire front yard. About 6,000 feet of driveway I think. $3,000 for the original driveway, plus an extra $5,900 to pave the rest of the front yard as well.
