I am very happy over all with the way things went with Pillar. The work performed was great and he worked with me to get the kitchen in my budget. If everything was great then why a B and not an A? Well, I reserve A ratings or 5 star ratings for red carpet service or the finest steak houses. To get an A there should be absolutely no issues or "oops" moments. Now, I know that in construction it is hard for everything to be perfect and I expect snags here and there. So...why the B? To grind up my floors was going to be a very dusty process and I expected that. The guy that showed up and started grinding didn't pay attention to the vacuum system. When I walked in dust was spewing everywhere from the vacuum. The same guy also left kind of a mess that the owner had to come clean up after hours so we could walk through the house. To Pillar's credit the guy no longer works for them. This wasn't the owners fault that it happened and he fixed the issue. The other little things were that a cabinet got nicked and even though it was fixed...I know it it there. Also, the cabinet guy drilled holes in the wrong part of a cabinet so the owner bought new pieces and fixed the issue. Also, this guy doesn't work for him any more. So, like I said. I am very happy overall and would love to have Pillar do work for me again. I also don't expect things to be "issue free" every time and as long as any issues are fixed then I am happy. But to get a perfect rating would require perfect everything...and that is rare. Johnnie is awesome and really worked with me to make sure I was happy! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1026932280690877.1073741833.539349529449157&type=3
Description of Work: Pillar had to repair another contractor's work. This included taking out laminate flooring and then grinding down over 1000 sq ft of self-leveling flooring patch that should never have been used. I then had them replace the laminate with over 1000 sq ft of tile. Since we had the flooring torn up we decided to have them put in new cabinets and granite counters.

My husband hired this company to renovate the house we just bought. The Bank gave us a renovation loan with a limit time of 120 days for Pillar Construction to finish the renovations. They were hired to remodel the kitchen, all the bathrooms, and to bring up to code some of the old house issues. The timeframe was more than enough for all the remodeling to be completed, but this was not the case. Since the beginning, this company was very unprofessional. The renovation was progressing very slowly. For some time they would only show up once a week. My husband had to be pushing them, insisting them to come and work faster. After a few months the deadline arrived, and the house was not ready. So they asked for a one month extension. Their explanation was that the cabinets that were being shipped from another state were not here yet. But honestly, regardless of the cabinets, the renovation of the whole house was not completed at all. This situation brought great stress in our family since we had to move to the house before the renovation deadline. We?ve been without a functional kitchen for almost 3 months. They promised they would finish the rest of the house as soon as possible, and that the only thing pending would be the cabinets. One month went by and the second deadline arrived. No cabinets, and the renovation was NOT completed. So they asked for another extension for 15 more days. This extension expired also and although the cabinets are in place, the renovation is NOT COMPLETE. At the moment of this review (August 29, 2015), they haven?t answered my husband?s phone calls. Even if they get to finish the few things left to do, that doesn?t make up for the bad experience my family has gone through with this company. ________________________________________________________ Reply to the Provider Response: Sep 14, 2015 The provider wrote this: "In response to the review from Mrs. [removed name]. We were hired to renovate several bathrooms and the kitchen for the [removed name]family. Initially the house was to be vacant during renovations. The [removed name]'s old home sold earlier that they expected and moved his family into the new home in the first two weeks of the renovation. Not only did they move into the home but, Mr. [removed name] decided to start performing other work (Not within Pillars scope of work). From my understanding no other work was to be performed in the home while we were under contract." The first part of this sentence is a big lie. Pillar Construction started the renovation at the end of March of 2015, and we moved to the premises at the end of May of 2015. Way more than "two weeks". And it is true that my husband started doing some improvements to the house by himself, just some paint and also changed the laminate flooring. He did that basically on a few of the many days the workers were not in our house. There was nothing in the Renovation loan contract saying we couldn't move into the house before the renovation was finished. And my husband specifically asked the Renovation Loan Officer if he could do that painting or floor changing, and the Officer answered it was ok as long as it wasn't any of the contractor's duties. I don't understand why Pillar Construction brings that subject up, if not to use it as an excuse for their delay. If that is what they are trying to imply, that would be lame. We were NEVER on their way. Even when we moved to the house under renovation, at the end of May, we (my 2 daughters, my dog and I) were out of the house at 8 am everyday and would not come back until 5 or 6 pm. Not only because we didn't want to be on the workers' way but also because it was very uncomfortable to live in a house under renovation. Only my husband would stay in the house on some of his days off. It is true that there was a delay in the delivery of the cabinets and we don't blame Pillar Construction for that; but they promised my husband to have the rest of the house renovated before the arrival of the cabinets. And that didn't happened. Regarding the tile in the lower shower instead of the fiberglass surround, it is true that they put the tile at no extra cost. They offered us to do that, since the fiberglass surround that we chose -that was available- arrived broken and a new one would take weeks to arrive. And about the custom shower door its true that they didn't charged us extra cost. I say things as they are. The good and the bad. I can say their quality is OK. But unfortunately the job with my kitchen backsplash was not good. I will see if there is a way to upload pics so other customers check out the backsplash corner in my kitchen, that the workers filled out with GROUT instead of cutting the Triangular small pieces that were supposed to fit in. And don't tell me the pieces were to small or hard to cut because the same size pieces were perfectly cut and installed in other parts of the backsplash. Regarding the statement "extensions to the contract were approved by the Lender and the client prior to the completion date", what other option did we have? They had already started the job, and they promised us to do things as soon as possible. Yes, they finished the job, but past the Third Bank Dateline!!!! Even on the last extension, they were NOT done at the deadline. This is the end of my review, regardless of what Pillar Construction answer to this update. I'm not going to be posting back and forth. The facts are the facts.

Response from Pillar Construction LLC
In response to the review from Mrs. From my understanding no other work was to be performed in the home while we were under contract. As far as the alligation of not responding to Mr. [removed name], the only time that we did not respond to his phone calls or texts within a reasonable time is on a weekend when we did not have phone service. Every call or text was responded to on the next business day to his satisfaction. Materials were ordered and installed when they arrived. Extensions to the contract were approved by the Lender and the client prior to the completion date. Pillar Construction installed tile in the lower shower due to the fiberglass shower surround that was specifed was not readily available. At no additional cost to the client. We also installed a custom shower door at no additional cost to the client. The door specified would not fit. At this time the project has been completed, inspected and approved. At Pillar Construction we satnd by our work. Not every project goes they way everyone involved expects it to. We hope that the [removed name]family enjoys their new home and the improvements that were made for many years to come.
