The deck foundation is great. The stairs to the deck are great. The decking boards are spaced so close together that they didn't drain. It's taken fall, winter, and summer for the boards to shrink enough to drain water. The bench seats are about 4" too high, as even a 6-foot man's toes barely touch the deck. The seats are not deep enough, as they cut you off at the knees when sitting and dangling your feet because of the height. The support boards are not faced for ease of snow shoveling. The bench backs are too high and not angled back enough for comfort. The 2x6 bench beams have split where they are screwed to the floor. Chad Staats said he would fix the seats last October (2018), and I waited on this review until he fixed the problem. It's now 8 months later (August 2019), Chad still is "too busy" to fit me in, and in fact doesn't even answer my emails, so I have to find a contractor that really knows what they are doing to fix this problem, at a considerable cost to me. Apparently, this was his first deck with benches. No, I would not hire Perfection Home Repairs, Chad Staats, again, unless he had evidence of previous experience in what I was hiring him for.

Went great. Have used Perfection Home Repairs before and WILL USE THEM AGAIN! Quality work, priced right, responsive, and trustworthy.
Description of Work: Called upon Chad at Perfection Home Repairs for a list of items that needed to be fixed related to the sale of a home in Palmer. An estimate by an Anchorage contractor was for nearly $4,500. Chad visited the property, completed the repairs, and the total bill was less than $500!

The framing quality of the deck build was acceptable except where the pilings go into the ground there was massive soil subsistence that another contractor observed to be completely unacceptable. Regarding the railing, Chad and his teenage workers did a terrible job with a third of the 2x2's split. Also, large chunks of the top of the railing had been splintered off. Altogether, this was one of the worst deck jobs he's ever seen, said a independent and accredited contractor. Ive been robbed!!

Response from Perfection Home Repairs
To start off Sheila and [Member Name Removed] called me in August to get a deck done. They explained that they had some other contractor friend that was going to do it and didn't have time. I went out to look at job and gave an estimate for the deck only with no railing. Customer explained they didn't have enough funds to do railing and deck. Once I sent estimate I received a call back with in a few days asking when I could start. I tried to work with them the best I could and put them ahead of a few other customers, because they were in a real big hurry and a little pushy to get it done. we went and set 5 footings about 4 1/2- 5 feet in the ground on compacted gravel. They were set precast and ready for new deck. We then went back the following Monday to build it in the pouring rain no less, since we don't let the weather slow us down like other contractors. While we were there they then wanted me to add the railing. Which I had to reschedule ahead of more customers since they gave me little warning. We completed the deck and they were very happy. I explained to them that the dirt around the footings would settle and that is normal. More dirt could be easily be added in the spring after the thaw. Customer was very impressed with the footings and process of installing them when with did it. I sent invoice for all work and they asked me to come back to change a board because of a splinter. I said I could and it would be couple weeks since they were quite a ways out of town. Sheila said that was fine and that she would mail a check for half and pay some cash and some on Credit Card. Asked her to mail check which never received. there was a little bit of texting back and forth to coordinate a time to go out there. I then called a week later or so at about 730 in evening to get the credit card and let her know I could stop out and change the board, which was now 2 boards. [Member Name Removed] answered the phone and explained that he was kind of drunk and probably wouldn't be much help. Caught me off guard and I proceeded to try to explain the answers to any questions. she was in background yelling at him and would not get on the phone. Lots of curse words between the two on the phone. Said to pay Balance but since I had no real confirmation on what they wanted other than $4000, I asked for card number and ran it for the balance plus 3%. It was very hard for me to try to be professional when I was talking to someone that could not speak or use the proper curtesy . Customer explained while were there working that they get drunk a lot. I decided after that phone call to not proceed with any other work for them and leave it be. I did not go and change any boards because I did not want to send any one of my employees into a hostile situation. I refunded only $100 which was some of the fees, which are fully explained in my estimate which they signed. The pictures they attached do not represent the quality of the job done. They are simply picking out very small flaws in the wood, other than the one single bolt that was missed which I was more than happy to change out. I can't make every deck board with o knots of splinters, its wood, not a composite. we save the best boards for railing and areas that show. I cant prevent them from splitting after installation. All railings are secured with screws and if they split while installing, we change them. The corner piece in their photos is of normal standard and not of any problem. they simply took a real close up pic to try to diminish my deck quality. In ending, We did a great job on the deck and customers where very happy with job well done at completion. I have three employees that will vouch for that. Funny how people change there minds so fast, to try to be mean. Also I hire younger kids that I see great potential in and can be trained in a skill, Not just teenagers that don't know anything and flip burgers.

Great until there was a few things needing corrected/repaired. Chad told us in an email they were coming out to replace bad railing boards & look at where ground sunk around pilings. Later, he declined to come make repairs stating we wanted, “free boards & free labor” & that coming all the way out to our place took too much time. Basically, after paying almost $9,000... we weren’t worth the effort to warranty his work. In addition, the $1,700 railing not only has defective top boards/handrails but most of the “spindles” are splitting due to the fact they installed them without pre-drilling the holes. We’ve had 2 other contractors look at their work & have told us the work is not acceptable. We’ve been too busy to dispute charges. In all honesty... it saddens me to know Chad doesn’t care about customer satisfaction. He told me my problem is that I “just want perfection”. It’s kind of ironic considering that’s the name of his business. Very, very, very disappointing! Especially considering the deck & railing was assembled in 2 & 1/2 days & cost nearly $9k!

Not well. Called and spoke with them on April 24. 2017 (Monday). Described what I needed, they said they could come out that Saturday, April 29th, to look at the job. Gave them my address and they indicated they would call before coming out. Had planned to be home all Saturday or at least until I met with them. Saturday came and went without them coming out or calling. Not a big job but important to me. Frustrating when contractors time is more valuable than yours. Will look elsewhere.

For some reason. in the garage, they only had 2 outlets. So I had to have some new ones put in. He did a very nice job and explained how it all works. And the thing that was interesting as far as affect goes, he is kind of a grumpy guy but his work is great so I don't care how grumpy he is. I th Perfection's business has boomed. They have been doing much bigger things now. They are doing whole houses now. They that much of a good job that people have called on them more and more. The overall experience was good. I think the price, it seemed high to me but it was fair.for the amount of work he had to do. He was very careful to explain what he was doing so that I knew exactly what I was buying. He came when scheduled and worked until he was done. I think he was very professional. You have to separate that out from the grumpiness. You never know what causes grumpiness. There is no question that he was clear in his direction on what he was doing and took the time to explain to me how the circuit worked when he was done. He didn't leave a mess and cleaned everything up. I would use him again but I don't have anything going until next year then I'm gonna have a kitchen and a couple of bathroom remodels to do. I will definitely call on him for that.

Sorry if I ever seem grumpy. Don't want to come across that way. Most of it is focus. I get real focused on a task and how to do something and when someone starts to talk or ask some questions I might ignore them for a sec so I can get my thoughts planned out. Some jobs just have lots of challenges and they need lots of thought. Glad I could help on the garage. Thanks Chad

The ramp turned out better than hoped for. The situation required a legal ramp in a tight space that would be manageable for whoever would steer the wheelchair in adverse conditions. The ramp needed to tie into an existing porch. A desire for aesthetics was natural, but it turned out not only functional, but beautiful as well.

I called Perfection Home Repairs to replace my front steps. Chad promptly called me to schedule an appointment. I was impressed that his quote was emailed to me the same day of the appointment. The work was completed in a very timely manner. The steps came out beautifully and were nicer than I ever could've imagined . What also impressed me was the cleanup process. First let me say I have no problems with the final product. They did a good job on the roof itself. My issue is the final price ran over $1000.00 over the quote and we were not given any indication of this price increase until we received the final bill. No courtsey calls at all. The on;y thing that was said was "we have to use a 4 shingle tab instead of 3 shingle tabs." The shingles ran 50% over the estimated costs and when I asked to see an invoice, he refused. Running anywhere up to the max of $500 on a bid is somewhat expected but when the overage runs over a $1000 communication is a professional courtesy. Also if he is unwilling to show his invoice for the shingles you have to question whether the company is reputable. I personally would not recommend this company, not because of the final product, because of the unprofessionalism of their billing practices.

I did not overcharge for the Job. There were Extra cost in labor for Two layers of shingle. Also some extra cost for extra vents. There were also extra costs for dump fees due to the second layer of shingle. I made it very clear to the husband that there will be additional costs. The estimate was sent to the customer over a month prior to any acceptance. The shingle in the original bid was 3 bundles per square. we ended up using 4 bundle per square. At the time I went to get materials the 3 bundle shingles were out and we were limited to 4 bundle shingles. Customer claims that I over charged for shingle, which is not the case, it just takes more bundles to cover the same square area. Customer was also very unfriendly at the time of invoice. There were only 13 extra bundles of shingle that were not in the original bid. Everything else I made clear to husband on the first day. Additionally. Customer stated on numerous occasions that they would get me a signed bid. bid wasn't signed and delivered until we already started job. We are a professional company and strive to satisfy all customers.

I signed a contract on June 13, 2016, and sent in a $1,000 deposit for work that was supposed to begin 4-6 weeks later. I contacted the contractor after 6 weeks, 8 weeks and finally 14 weeks. At no time did the contractor ever contact me first. On September 27, 2016, after 14 weeks, I said that it was too long and asked that our deposit be returned. He said he would. That was over a month ago. I, at this point, have not received the return of the deposit.
Description of Work: Perfection Home Repairs was going to remove a small section of deck on the front of the house as well as the front steps and long steps. They were going to install a new deck, dig for new footings, and frame for the new deck and stairs. The upper deck will have cedar decking and the lower long steps will have Trex decking. They were also going to build a new railing with a new Graspable handrail leading up to the front door.

I sent an estimate early summer for him. Never received anything for about a month. So I told him I can put you on the schedule, but it would be a while since you took a long time to accept estimate. Made attempts to get it don around late sept and early October but at this point he declined to want us to do the job. I have the deposit and sent out to him, for refund. Cant please everyone. Bottom line, don't wait to accept a job in the summer months, as these are the busiest times. I send all estimates out with in a couple days of looking at them. Customers need to accept estimate quickly otherwise they will get pushed to back of list. I work as a first come first serve, based on acceptance of estimates. Who ever signs estimate first will be on schedule first, doesn't matter if I did estimate days ago or months ago. The deposit was returned in full.

Chad showed up on time and started work, he inspected the joist and informed me that he wouldn't be able to do much for the leveling the floors due to how the house is settling but he tried and it's more level than it was before. Chad completed the job in a timely fashion and left the house clean and he even offered to take some additional trash for me that was sitting out front of my lawn, to me he went above and beyond what I asked him to do. Both chad and his employee were super nice and careful to not track dirt all over the house. In fact the whole job went pretty good. I only have a couple complaints. The interior trim goes all the way to the subfloor, so now I'll have to take it back off and cut it so our new carpet will fit properly. They marked up the sliding glass door, but that isn't terrible it would have costed me about the same price after paying a delivery fee from Home Depot.. The biggest complaint is that even after I asked, no flashing, drip cap, or any weather sealing was done. So now I'll have to do that myself.

He was planning on doing the rear deck which I gave and estimate for. I mentioned the flashing at the bottom the door will be best done with the new deck. also I mentioned he needed gutters. Something that I have another contractor do. I gave him the number to that gutter contractor. The interior trim is easlily cut with a small hand saw or utility saw. its always better to have the piece longer than needed. We cut them all the time with out removing. Also [Member Name Removed] the customer left about 2/3 of the way through the job to got to work. His wife was there and never mentioned any of these complaints which I would of gladly advised my solution.

I guess if you think you're perfect, you don't really need to listen to your client. I should have paid more attention to when he pulled off the job the first afternoon to go to court because of "an unreasonable" client on a previous project. Hmmm. Most of the work Chad and crew did was very good. Some was not. When I called and asked him to come back to make it right, he said he told me that water proofing a crawl space was tricky and no guarantees. True enough. That, however was not my complaint. I tried to explain that, told Chad my problem was installation in one corner was not done right - the adhesive was not holding the overlap of the moisture barrier. If he would return and look at it, I bet he would agree and fix it at no charge. If he didn't agree, then we could talk about it. Well, Chad was too busy to swing by the next couple of days, but would call later. He didn't. I called him. He was still too busy, he still didn't want to listen as to what my complaint was. It was like he already knew better and didn't need to listen. Too bad, because most of the work was well done. Put "Perfection" on the business card; I didn't find it in the work or the communication that followed.

I gave (Member Name Removed) an estimate, and it took him more than a few weeks to accept it. We performed the work and he was happy with how it looked and was done. About 6 months later I received a phone call from (Member Name Removed) and he mentioned the corner of plastic near the water line was loose. I told him that was a spot that may come loose and you could just stick it back up or re glue it. He insisted on me taking time out of my busy day to come look at this which was clearly just a simple fix he could of done. And I explained that over the phone. As for the court case, it is really none of his business. We had done some work for another customer in Eagle river and she was very happy but said she didn't have the money so we stopped the job, and the court case was so that I could get paid. Being a homeowner has some responsibility to take care of your house, or property over the time that you own it. (Member Name Removed)seems not to take on any responsibility to handle small things that may arise. This was a small and simple fix he could of done on his own, at little or no cost. I'm rather discussed that you would take my company name and throw it in the dirt. I take pride in my company and try to answer every customers complaints and repairs as needed. I know (Member Name Removed) could of took the responsibility to re stick the piece of plastic up and he decided that he was not going to. If I have caused you any problems I apologize for that. I don't offer guarantees and I have no Idea what he stored down in the crawl space after we left. The crawl space is not a storage area and should not be entered unless for a service task. As for that; Some one else could have went down there and caused the plastic to come off. There is no statements or way of knowing at this point who or what caused it.

Chad of Perfection Home Repairs did some work for me in 2008 and 2009. I was satisfied with his work, and gave him a "A" Rating. On 3 June 2013 I contacted Chad, and told him I wanted some work done in my downstairs Bathroom, and in the Kitchen. Chad came out and I showed what I wanted done. Chad took measurements, pictures and wrote down the work to be performed. Chad told me he bought a larger trailer. but that he could put what he needed in his old trailer so he could make it up and down my driveway. Before Chad left I told him I needed the work done before the 2nd week in August. This is the same thing I told him on the two previous jobs he did for me. The reason the work needed to be performed before the 2nd week in August is because that is when my wife and I go back to work, and this is the only time frame we would be home to take care of the dogs, answer any questions that may arise and be there in case of an emergency situation. Chad said he would get back with me and the he left. I know Chad tries to do as much outside work as possible during the early part of Summer, so I didn't bother him. On August 11, 2013 I contacted Chad via email, and told him I was sorry he couldn't fit me into his Summer Schedule. I also asked if he did up an estimate, and if so I would appreciate if you would email me same. Chad emailed me on August 12, 2013 and said he still had me on tap, but the work would have to be scheduled closer to October. I emailed Chad back and told him that wouldn't work. and that next Summer between the end of May and before 15 August would be good. I called Chad on 9 June, 2014 concerning the work I wanted done . Chad said he had me on his schedule. On 11 June I sent Chad an email letting him know my wife wasn't working, and the time frame for the work to be done could be extended to the middle of October. We usually get snow around this time, and my driveway is hard to get down and up. I also listed the work I wanted done. A few days after I sent the email I called Chad, and he said he got my email and that he had me down. I haven't heard from Chad since June, 2014. I think it would be a Common Courtesy on Chad's part as a Professional to contact his clients if for any reason he is unable to perform a job. All my emails have my phone number on them. Chad should have my information from previous jobs he did for me, and I am in the phone book..
Description of Work: Work was to be performed in the downstairs Bathroom and Kitchen, but the contractor never contacted me to schedule the work.

Response from Perfection Home Repairs
During the summer months most of my work is exterior related. As far as interior jobs they get put off untill fall or winter. I apologize if I caused any problems. I tried to let [removed member name] know that his work was more winter based and easier to do at that point. He didn't want to schedule when I had open times and I couldn't make a opening for him when everything would work out. I'm a smaller based company and can not get everything done for everyone. I try my best to work for repeat customers but sometimes it's just to hard to squeeze it all in a short time frame. Also I have two kids and wife that I like to spend time with and sometimes I get side tracked from calling people back. Last year was also a bad year for employees. Had to fire quite a few bad workers. And a accident also put me behind a little too. Hope all works out for you. Thank you

They did a beautiful job with the new lighting and 2 coats of paint throughout all my living areas, and really spent time on the little details. Once the began the project, they showed up when they planned, and stayed with it until it was done and cleaned up. They estimated 3 days, and worked hard to make sure they 'were done on time, which I greatly appreciated. I've used them before on an outdoor project, and will definitely use them again this summer, and have already recommended them to others.
Description of Work: Removed lights in kitchen and basement, replaced them and repaired the ceiling and other areas. Painted kitchen, living/dining room, entry and hallway, and basement family room and trim as needed.
