Preferred Plumbing & Heating

We arranged for Preferred Plumbing and Heating (PPand H) to install a tankless water heater in the fall of 2012. Unfortunately they were busy and earliest appointment available was in late October and winter came early. It was my suggestion that we wait until spring as the roof was icy and would have been dangerous to work on. We rescheduled the install for May 15. The weather was good they were able to do the install on that day. They arrived a couple hours later than planned but completed the job in much less time than I expected. I recall they started about 11 am and were done by about 3:30 - removing the old tank and putting in the tankless one. They could not put the vent out the side of the house like is normally done with these so had to go out the roof with what appears to be a custom vent. This is the way the gas tank heater vented. The install was professionally done - the guys doing the work were great. Overall an and quot;Aand quot;. I gave PPand H a and quot;Band quot; for punctuality as we scrambled to get the room and house clean after the kids were off to school, expecting them around 9 am. We could have took our time. The price was a little higher than I recall as an estimate in the fall. They needed to run a larger gas line in to supply the water heater, so that's probably what the difference was for - I would just like to know as the bill was pretty vague. Anyway I'm super happy with the system and think the price is fair. Other people I know have put these in (with other providers) and the price was around $3,000. We had to go out the roof and needed a special gas line so I think that justifies the additional cost.

We had Preferred Plumbing and Heating (PPand H) install a tankless water heater. They needed to turn off the gas and afterward the furnace was hard to start. It was an off brand, 18 years old, and we got it started but decided to replace it as soon as possible with an energy efficient Trane. PPand H ordered the furnace, showed up on time, and in spite of an awkward location in our crawl space got the old furnace out and new one installed in about 6 hrs. Unfortunately there was high CO2 out the stack. After hours of troubleshooting they had to give up for the weekend. They decided the one that got put in was damaged or a lemon and ordered another furnace Monday morning from Anchorage and it was installed as soon as it arrived (Wednesday afternoon). The supplier wanted to continue troubleshooting but PPand H said no and went ahead and got another one on the way. They stuck to the agreed upon price estimate for the work, in spite of it taking twice as long between the troubleshooting and reinstall of the second unit. I thought that was very cool. All in all excellent service, time to install even with the difficulties was less than expected. Very pleased with the work and the new furnace is great - quiet and heats the house quickly. It turned out my old furnace had some real problems so was a good thing we replaced it.

Our boiler went out in the middle of the winter. Called around for estimates for repair, way too expensive! Went to their store and rep diagnosed and told us how to repair on our own.

They did an excellent job. It was expensive.

My only problem was they were a little slow getting to me.

I would give them a B overall.
