GCI

The Internet Service Provider (GCI) does well with supplying continuous Internet service through cable. It is, however, rather expensive--but so are the competitors and the competitors do not provide the upload and download rates that GCI does. Mind you, the download speed I pay $90 a month for (15MB/sec) is a mere fraction of the speed available in the Lower 48 states.

They were here right when they said they would and the repairman explained everything to us in terms we understood. The gentleman took quit a bit of time that I am sure he was not supose to!

All went well, their customer service is great and they are very patient with customers! I can not the major networks on my iPad and GCI keeps saying they will get this fixed but they have not come through yet.

Overall, the experience was fine. GCI requires that you use their equipment (works fine, but if you have specialized wireless equipment you may not be able to use it...we had to purchase additional equipment to match what they use, but for most people this won't be an issue). We weren't especially impressed when we picked up the equipment from the store...the girl behind the desk seemed to have better things to do than waste time with customers and we had to go back because the bag of equipment was missing a power cord. My phone interactions with customer service have all been good. I've called several times; never waited more than a few minutes (if at all), they were usually very helpful, and always pleasant...far better tech/cust support than I've seen in most of the lower 48 (based upon experiences in 6 different states). One thing to note--as we aren't from around here--was that the service isn't unlimited...you can probably use their tools to make a pretty good guess as to how much you need each month. However, if you use something like Netflix, you'll want to go online with Netflix and adjust the quality so that it isn't streaming HD (otherwise you get a nice, shocking bill your first month around). To GCI's credit, they credited us the overage fees and helped us adjust to a better plan. After 5 months we are discontinuing service due to a move. Our new home isn't serviced by GCI or I would likely continue with them. Bottom line: despite the negative reviews I've seen, I had a good experience and would go with them again (of course, around here you might not have much choice anyway).

I am not a fan of GCI. Unfortunately, they are the monopoly in Alaska and bundling with them is cheaper....but I have seen a drop in quality. We live on the Air Force Base and my husband and I have to stand in certain spots in our house just to get cell phone service. At my friends houses just down the road, I am either roaming or have absolutely no service what so ever. It is very frustrating. If there is a hiccup in the system, it affects everything. The only reason I put that we would use them again is we will most likely retire in Alaska, and we will probably have to go with GCI again. On a good note, every person working at GCI has been helpful and very nice to me. When my new phone was acting wonky, they exchanged it for a new one.

You get a discount if you use all 3 services, but it is on 2 separate bills, which they don't explain so be careful. I had my cable shut offf because I didn't pay the bill, even thought i had never recieved one. The person on the line said " well I see we had returned mail from this address, but you still have to pay the reconnect fee." And i had payed the other bill on time with no problems. Then my internet bill spiked frm $150 ish to like $350 a month it was outragous. I recommend the cable cause you don't have many options up here but i Don't recomend the internet service, just pay the extra $50 a month on your cable it is not worth it.

They have monopoly in our area. Lately our internet was dragging and they told us that we need to do an upgrade on our router. They advised us to get the latest one because what it was our phone can use wireless enabled too and was pulling all of it.
