Painting was well done, prep thorough, and clean up excellent. Steve checked on his crew frequently when not working on the job himself. Crew was friendly and professional as well. Job was intermittently disrupted, on our part due to illness, and weather, but Steve always tried hard to work with our schedule and weather permitting. After much delay on my part choosing outside paint color he made a recommendation he had used on another house (and gave me address to look at the color on a house), which turned out better than any color I was considering. I changed my mind on trim color after he had done one set of windows and he promptly helped find another color that looked better and repainted without a problem. Similar problem with choosing fence paint to go on old weathered cedar and deck paint but patiently went through multiple options and final recommendations looked great. Then helped choose interior colors for new house and did great job there as well. Would definitely recommend and use again for other painting needs.

Steve and his crew were extremely professional, they showed up by 7:00 every morning and were extremely quiet, they stayed on task and did an amazing job, I couldn't be happier and will keep his number in my book for other jobs in the future.

Work was tentatively scheduled, but no notification prior to the start of work. They just appeared one day. Fortunately I did not have guests from out of state, but a heads-up type of call would be appropriate. Work continued in what I deemed inappropriate weather and voiced the concern. I was dismissed and, somewhat arrogantly, told that the materials were made for the climate. I was again dismissed when asking for touch-up work and later found damage to an area but no apology for causing it. The quality of the work was average. It's paint on walls. They made an odd decision to paint the side of the brand new (custom color) vinyl windows without being directed. It looks dumb and could eventually peal. This is the second contractor I've chosen from Angie's List and the second time I've been less than happy with the result or the provider.

Came out just a few days after accepting the bid. Did fine, professional work. Since I wasn't home they even came back the next day to make sure everything was good before getting paid.

Did a great job, great to work with. Only bad point, was that they said they would start work end of July, but didn't get to us until mid September, which was very inconvient for us. Once they got to us, though, they did a great job and were very professional.

Our nearly 20 year old back deck was tilting from possible frost heave through the years, and railings were coming loose. We needed it replaced. We received an estimate from Steve Thomas in the fall 2012, but weather prevented further work. We called in the spring 2013, and we were flexible for a start date, given weather and other jobs his crew had. The deck is about 10x20 elevated about 7 feet above ground in the back of our house. The construction work lasted one week. Demolition was done quickly and very professionally the first day. All old wood, etc. was removed and the area policed at the end of the day. Upon demolition, several rotten side boards were found that we agreed should be replaced. Construction lasted through the week. The construction was very well done, with screws, rather than nails, waterproofing boards connected to the house, sufficient lumber where needed. I was extremely pleased with the crew: Carlos, who took the old deck down and was the lead on construction; and Jeremy, who worked on the construction. Both are very professional, conscientious, and first rate at their work. I was very pleased to have them. Steve Thomas brought materials, checked with me and the crew during the day concerning any questions, and removed the demolished pieces. Deck staining took place about a week later, after the new lumber dried a bit. The deck looks so much better than I expected, and much more than the previous deck when it was newer.

They do a excellent job with our painting project. They repair any areas that need attention and do nice prep work before painting. This is the second time they have painted our project.

We did not use Restoration Painting for our exterior painting project because his estimate was $2100-$3500 higher than the other estimates we recieved (4 total estimates) . The cost difference could not be explained by the preparation of the house, number of coats, painting technique (spray and back rolled each coat) , quality of paint or primer used or the incidental repairs we discussed. We liked Steve, but just couldn't use him for that cost when there were other painters offering a similiar quality service for less. I had a conversation with another highly recommended local painter who was familiar with my house and he said a house my size and condition is typically in the +/-$6000 range. I would have hired that guy, but he didn't respond to my phone message requesting an estimate (he had accidently deleted the message and realized it later when he was cleaning out the deleted messages on his phone, which is when he called me to apoloigize for not responding to my message). I suppose we should have called Steve and asked him to clarify why his estimate was so high. Maybe he would have revised it or given a good explanation about what he was offering that was worh that much more money. Somehow I think he is charging more based on his reputation, but I can't afford to pay that much extra money just for a name. The painter I did hire was competent (although a little bit of a a stress queen and difficult to deal with personality). Now my house has a good coat of paint on it that will protect it and last for several years.

INITIAL REPORT: I don’t write well enough to sing the praises that Restoration Painting so deserves. Last year, Steve Thomas, owner of Restoration Painting, provided an estimate for painting the entire exterior of the house, with, at my request, a separate quote for the trim only. My husband and I decided to take care of only the trim last year and hired Steve to do it. Not only did he do an excellent painting job, he also relocated a handrail, which was erroneously installed by a remodeling contractor the previous year. This year (2011) we hired Restoration Panting to paint the entire exterior of our house (we decided we wanted a different trim color than what we had applied last year). Again, an excellent job was performed on the painting. Additionally, Steve identified an area of siding which was deteriorating and he replaced that. Moreover, Steve provided a very creative solution for the dryer exhaust, which was the cause of the siding deterioration, and that he expertly installed. Restoration Painting also came up with a solution to a problem I’d been working on for six years. The floor of our backyard deck had been painted with a bright-white primer and several layers of cream-colored paint by the previous owner. Nothing would remove that paint and primer and believe me I tried everything. The deck was an eyesore. Restoration Painting sanded away the paint, replaced some boards, and stained the deck a natural color. The transformation is amazing! Steve is an honorable man. He is on time, has a very strong work ethic and the pride he takes in his work is evident. He’s an expert craftsman. Steve kept me apprised of the progress (particularly during rainy weather), works efficiently, cleans up, and has a staff of very personable, trustworthy, hard workers. Steve offers reasonable, competitive bids. I trust Steve and his staff, value the quality of craftsmanship offered, and highly recommend him to others without hesitation. Followup: Report: Steve dispatched an associate to correct some exterior sections that were peeling. I highly recommend Steve Thomas, Restoration Painting, for all your painting, remodeling and repair needs.

The finished job is a 100 percent improvement over the condition of the home prior to the work. We are very pleased with the effort and would recommend Restoration Painting to anyone interested.

Steve and his crew were all very professional and punctual. The quote for the job was not the lowest, but we very comfortable having them work in our home and that to us is priceless! The work ethic of the crew was evident. They worked non-stop for three days to complete our little project. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the work done.

I arranged a walk through with Steve from Restoration Painting and Home Improvement, Inc along with one other Angie's list painter. Steve's pricing was just a bit higher than the other but he was very knowledgeable, prepared and flexible to my schedule. We negotiated the price and he matched the other painter's price. I selected a color with Steve's help and I was surprised how fast, efficient and detailed they were. I have already recommended Restoration Painting and Home Improvement, Inc and Angie's list to others.

By far the best experience I have had with a contractor working on my house. Steve was professional, prompt, and reliable throughout the entire process. Out of three quotes I got to perform the work, Restoration Painting was the most expensive. However, the bid was very thorough and detailed and I felt most comfortable paying extra to go with them. Steve took detailed notes on his iPad during every site visit and was able to easily access notes from previous conversations. We planned to have them do the work several months in advance during a period while we were on vacation. Steve kept in contact throughout the summer and arranged a site visit before we left to make sure everyone was on the same page. Work started promptly according to schedule and finished when we were told it would be done. Steve and his crew were on time everyday and he called back to follow through when he said he would. We received updates throughout the course of the project and he contacted us whenever questions came up to verify what we wanted. Now for the workmanship itself. They did a fantastic job with the drywall installation and one cannot tell where the new meets up with the existing. Very fine work with both the drywall and the carpentry. The paint job is fantastic, very clean lines and trim work. There was only one spot we asked them to touch up and it was done right away and looks awesome. The cleanup was pretty good, a lot of dust from the drywall installation took a few attempts to clean up completely. No paint drips or any damage to personal belongings. Garage was left a little messy but did not take much time to clean up on our own. I would highly recommend Restoration Painting to anyone and plan on using them in the future to paint the exterior of our house. They take pride in their work and offer excellent customer service.

Steve did a wonderful job. I live in Girdwood, so I was especially pleased that he would come out here. Bids done professionally, and the crew was on time, skilled, and extremely neat. I was really pleased with the exterior painting and the new cedar deck. Would recommend Steve and his crew for any similar jobs.

The crew was excellent. They were friendly, quiet and professional. The house was cleaned first then painting began about a week later. Bushes and plants were covered or carefully pulled back, the crew worked all day every day and Steve was on site at a couple different times during the day. Any concerns we had were quickly addressed and at the end of the job, they cleanedup completely, leaving no mess, no paint spots on plants or concrete and no damaged plants! We couldn't be happier with our home and the fantastic job Restoration did for us!

Let me begin by saying I didnt know many contractors in the Anchorage area and I was familiar with who did energy efficiency work so I picked this company entirely based on the reviews here on Angies List and I couldnt have been happier. This company was very professional and punctual. They generated a timely estimate that was lower than some of the competition. The selling point for me was Steve's laidback and honest nature. He also was prepared to start the work immediately. When the crews showed up they made sure to make a very small impact during the construction process. They laid down floor mats to ensure dirt wasnt tracked inside the house. When I returned home from work everyday and they had wrapped up work for the day, I wasn't even able to tell they had been working because they left everything very clean. Steve, the owner, is very responsive and is familiar with the AHFC energy rebate guidelines and specifications. He is also familiar with city codes and standards and he does many installations for Rural Cap. He helped me understand my report and he had some great suggestions to affordably reduce airflow (for example chimney balloons) and did a great job sealing/caulking in the house to meet the goals in the report. Steve also made recommendations on important things that should be addressed during the construction process to ensure safety and energy efficiency. One of these things was the fact that my bathroom and range were vented into the attic on both sides of my duplex. He explained to me that this is a hazard and before he insulated the attic he made a strong suggestion to have these rerouted and vented outside. The most impressive thing to me about the company was that they came back after all the construction was done and after my first energy audit and were willing to continue to help me achieve a higher energy rating by doing more sealing/caulking as they saw fit. That is something you just dont see these days! In the end my house went from a 2star home to nearly a 4 star plus home (I got a 4 star rating but was 1 point away from 4 star plus). I would not hesitate to recommend this company again.

Steve Thomas (owner) has a way of anticipating the needs of his customers. He comes up with solutions to issues before they become problems. He treats every project as if he is working on his own home.

Since my last post, restoration painting provided an estimate and it appears resonable. However, because he did not respond in the time frame that he said he would, I have moved on.

I enlisted restoration painting to provide an estimate to paint the trim and repair the stairs on my two story home. Steve showed up, inspected the work, never took a single measurement or made a note of any kind that I could see and said he would have the estimate the next day. That was a week ago and I have not heard a word.

They were on time and well prepared. A few of the guys were not either careful or experienced enough, so some of the trim was missed or had brush marks. However, Steve (the owner) was very professional about fixing everything I pointed out. Finishing the trim was delayed (no fault of theirs) until our move-in was completed and some baseboards and stairs were installed by other contractors. Restoration was very good about fixing some of the moving damage, and damage made by the flooring contractor -- at no additional charge. I separately paid them to do some additional sheetrock repairs -- unrelated to their original scope. This was a ceiling patch in an area not otherwise being painted. The guy that did this was masterful, and one has to look carefully to see the patch. I found Steve to be professional and honest.

It went very well. What I really liked was all the emails letting me know what was happening and when they planned to come and finish a particular job. I changed a couple of things before they finished and they seemed to take take it all in stride. I'm going to have them estimate painting the house this summer.

We had watched them paint a neighbor's house, and were impressed by their performance, and thus requested a bid. The bid was the highest we received: but several other bids were unreasonably low in our view (same price we had paid about 12 years ago); another bid was a little lower. But having seen their work gave us confidence in the slight extra price. (Upon completion of the work, I very much feel the extra was worth it.). Mr. Thomas ensured his crew knew what they were supposed to do and that it was done. If they were uncertain about specific techniques, he gave them instruction. He was on site once or twice daily. We found the crew polite and professional; if they had a question for us, they asked before proceeding. The workers were quiet and neat around the house - no loud music or trash left on the ground. All work was done very well, and we are pleased with the look of the house. The work did not start until August, and occurred during a rainy period. They did what they could during the showers, but did not rush the job (i.e. waited until the showers ceased and they had good days to paint.) During the course of the job, Mr. Thomas was accessible -- both when we had questions or when he did for us. Communication was very good. Upon near completion, we did a walk around and all questions and requests for any final touch-ups were done. No spilled paint on roof, driveway, etc. We felt that we were in very good hands with Restoration Painting, and will consider them for future jobs we may have.

I contacted this company via Angie's List to ask for a bid for exterior painting of our front and back porch. Two days later I received an email from the company stating that they 'were booked until September'. Then I received an additional email (immediately following the last email) stating 'Sorry, I thought I was replying to someone else. I looked at your house and I'm working on your bid.' So they supposedly came to my house (without me knowing) and went in my backyard to look at the work I needed done. I responded back to the email that I would look forward to receiving the bid. I never received the quote and have had no further contact. Not impressed.
