Mel is very professional with attention to detail. Although one area where the roof lost shingles cannot be seen from the road, he ordered shingles to match what I have. Even got me some extra shingles as the ones I have are not usually stocked. Roof have gone through 2 more wind storms and have held without issues. The lady that runs the office is very nice too. I called on a Sunday intending to just leave a message but she was in the office and answered the call rather than let it go to voicemail.

Ice on my eve was over a foot thick and icicles weere starting to form in the soffet vent and were running down the siding. It was obvious that next they would leak into the house. I checked Angie's List for a good roofer and found a lot of positive comments about Mel's Roofing. I called and the woman who answered the phone was very on-the-ball. She read back to me my information, taking care to spell my name right, which is a sign of quality. And she said Mel would call me either that day or the next. He called me that evening and was so accommodating to come by the house earlier on the following day, rather than later, so that I could make a mid-day doctor's appointment. At this time of year, roofing work in Anchorage is all about ice dams and subsequent leaks. He got up on the roof and pounded on that glacier until it was gone. You could hire a teen-ager to do the work, but so much better to have someone who is insured, licensed and has experience, so they don't ruin your roof or injure themselves. Definitely having him come back this summer to assess whatever needs to be done to keep my roof healthy.

Quick return of phone call. Came over next day and completed repairs. Very honest and knowledgable. Will use them when replacing our roof.

Mel was excellent.

Mel arrived and got to inspecting the "job" immediately. After a full evaluation he suggested some tempory fix and that I should wait until spring thaw as trying to remove the ice on the rubber membrane would cause damage.

I happened to notice a water bubble forming in my ceiling and upon climbing into the attic I discovered a couple of pieces along the top of my roof had blown away allowing snow to fall in and melt and leak through. I called Mel the next morning and described the problem. He said that it sounded like a pretty easy fix and could come by the next morning and take a look. He promptly showed up the next morning, and stated that the missing pieces had blown away and that he would need to go to the hardware store to pick some up and that he would do so the next morning and come by and replace them. He asked if a couple hundred sounded reasonable, I said yes. He promptly showed up the next morning and replaced the missing pieces. The only complaint that I have is the lack communication in arranging what time the job was to be done. He just showed up without a phone call first although I had given him my phone number twice. Other than that he was very pleasant, prompt and efficient.

We hired this company to replace our roof (house in Nunaka Valley) because Mel spent more thime than other companies looking at the roof and making sure wht we wanted. He and his crew have been very professional and responsive during the process. The crew showed up when they said they would and did a very good job of it. The roof looks great now. Mel took some extra time making the transition between our peaked roof and our flat carport come out better than it had been before. We are happy with the overall result and the experience. We chose to replace all of the plywood, rather than just the bad areas. The price for that was reasonable.

The work was done as fast as weather permitted and was done perfectly. There was never a worry about leaving the roof exposed and vulnerable during some very rainy days. At the end of the project, per our request, Mel added some trim boards to improve esthetics where the flashing was installed and he did so very quickly. Our neighbor, builder/engineer who watched the roofing process, said he did a very good job. We are pleased with our new 30 year roof and will not hesitate to refer people to Mel and his roofing company. Best part of all, I didn't have to ride herd over the operation to get it done and done right, which is what I have had to do numerous times with other home improvement project contractors...thus the reason for going to Angies List for vetted companies due to very bad experiences prior to this big project. The reason I chose Mel's Roofing is I cannot stomach anymore arrogant, callous, ill mannered, uncaring, unprofessional, show up when they feel like it, ask for draws during the project, make a mess in our home, leave for other jobs with the key and alarm key fob to our house, make us track them down to get them back, and then have the audacity to tell us what a, and quot;Pain in the a** cutomer we wereand quot; while standing in our home writing our final bill...company or worker in my home ever again! Final Note: The company is not set up for credit cards yet, and there is a reluctance to do so, customers have to write a check...that is the only down side to using this company. In my opinion, that was not enough of a deterent to shop around for another company that does allow credit cards for payment and not get good customer service. I was after quality work and professional customer service and that is what I got. Those two factors are most important when you home is being worked on. Colleen Bobbie

Mel himself came out to check out my cedar shake roof. I'm seeing quite a bit of moss and several of the shingles are cracking and a few are missing altogether. Another roofer came out and quoted $27K to replace. That may be a fair price...but I was hoping to hang on a few more years. Mel checked it out and pointed out those areas that were fine versus those that needed attention. He was forthright in telling me what needed to be done. After spending about an hour of his time, he said that it could be touched up for a couple hundred and safely last for another 2-3 years. We agreed that he'll do the work by early August. I'll update then.

The work was done and completed on time the price was was good. The clean up was great and would definitely recommend them.

They couldn’t do what we needed done because we have a rock roof. She was real helpful in giving me real good advice on things to watch out for. She was real friendly. She answered the phone unlike many others who didn’t.
