Description of Work: Never arrived to work when he said they would, always asking for more money to complete the job, took all the left over materials with him and became quite belligerent when we confronted him on all of the above.

He said that he is license bonded and ensured. He did a good job on taking care of the problem. What came in to play was when he put the tile on the floor he was in a big hurry to get to another job so he did a very sloppy job. Then he called back a few weeks later and said "listen I will come back and redo that for you free of charge," but the problem was I have not heard from him since. I made contact with him twice and after that I could not get a hold of him no more. He charges a lot less than anybody else. We had about four estimates, most of them were around $1000 and I think he did it for $600-700. We had to buy all the material. We were not happy with him. I wrote to Better Business Bureau about him. He did take care of the problem and he fixed it the right way. He had to take out the sub-floor and raise the toilets. He does have the knowledge and the know-how, but I think the dollar sign has gotten in the way of his workmanship.
Description of Work: I used Lefty's Handyman Service.

He arrived on the job site and gave an estimate of $4300.00 to repair the roof, walls and floors damaged by a leaking roof, labor only, I was to supply all materials. He tore out part of one wall shoveled off the roof then told me there was more damage than he had first thought and asked for an additional $1200.00. I wrote a check for that amount and had purchased all the material to do the repairs but he would return my calls telling me he would be there later in the day and not show up. I stopped payment on the $1200.00 check and terminated his services.
Description of Work: The work was never performed, all I heard was excuses about why he was waiting for one thing or another. The job was for a roof repair and walls damaged by the water. He did shovel off the roof and tear out one small portion of the wall and tear up the floor. after one week of excuses about why he could not do the work at this time, the last straw was his arriving at the job site at 10:15 in the morning with a crew of 3, they worked until 1:15 and left for lunch and returned at 6:15 in the evening telling me they needed to wait for the wall to dry. I terminated their contract and asked them to leave. I would never have them on my property again. He had asked for an advance of $2300.00 to start the job, he has not returned the monies or answered my letter requesting the return.

From the Better Business Bureau website: "On May 16, 2013, BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding service issues. Consumers allege they hire Lefty's Handyman Service to do minor repairs around their homes, including bathroom repairs. Consumers claim the work is inferior or not completed, and the company is unresponsive to requests for further assistance." Leftys Handyman Service (Derek Edenshaw). I did not realize when I hired him that Mr. Edenshaw had 6 (now 7) Better Business Bureau complaints filed against him in 2012 alone. We hired him to do some minor finish work in a rental including painting, floorboard trim, installing bathroom fans, tiling a backsplash, finishing safety upgrades on a stair railing, etc. As with the other reviewers, Mr. Edenshaw would say over and over that he would be on site at a specific time, yet he never showed up. When he finally did show up, he brought 2 other workers and rushed through the job - and did TERRIBLE work. He left the site at 3:30 pm saying he would be finsihed in an hour and asked me to wire him payment. By 4:30 pm the same day, he claimed the work was complete and started aggressively demanding I send payment. My tenants let me know that his workers were actually still there working. I told him I would provide payment once I saw photos of the finished product. The next morning I received over 30 photos from my tenants showing the awful work that he and his crew did. I refused to pay. He threatened a lien on my home and to sue me for the balance (1,000) he thought owed to him. I have filed a formal complaint with the Bettter Business Bureau. Some text messages from Mr. Edenshaw: Dec 29 at 10:35am: "Going to be done in around 2 are you sending rest off money today" 2:42pm: "Be done in an hour" 3:06pm: "Are you sending money" 4:29pm: "We are done; Told you we would be done today" Minutes later: "If I knew you were going to pull this would of never went today we hustled to get done" 5:16pm: "I'm done I can send photos when they get home in couple hours I leave town tomorrow... Tile and mudded bathroom need you to send Money today please if there are touch ups needed I can still do when they get home. Can you send money I have to go back anyway" Dec 30 at 10:01am: "Going to finish job... what about gettin paid.... takin you and them to court" 10:16am: "You are a thief but that's ok what was problem there nothing" 10:31am: "Those people on [Better Business Bureau] are going court in feb suing them" 11:05am: Do you want to work it out or do I need to put lean on place" Dec 31 at 8:46am: "Do you want me to finish job or put lean on place" "I wasn't done there....I wasn't done yet I was going to finish job" 9:01am: "Let me finish promise to do good job wasn't asking pay to run off left tools" 9:01am: "I will take you to court with pictures 3 workers need your full name and military commanding officer to report this condo association etc" "I need full name to file paperwork today" "See you in court filing paperwork today calling condo association telling neighbors also now them" "I will tell judge you wouldn't give me commanding officer or your full name" "Mechanics lean military will not pay for them to stay there they will have to move when I put lean on place nothing will go on there until court" "I will make sure condo assiciation knows lean is on place can't be sold or rented" And on and on. These are only a few of the messges I received from him. In the end I said to him, "You demanded payment before the work was done - before I even saw photos of the work. You claimed to have even done more than what was agreed. You've threatened me with court and a lien on my home. Naturally I lost my trust in you. Again, I will email you the photos where you can clearly see the low quality of work that was done. And you are welcome to retrieve the last of your tools when the tenant is available today." The barage of text messages from him after this are just more threats to put a lien on my home and to take me to court. Unfortunately, I have to find someone new to come in and re-do all of the work he did. I have never seen such poor quality of workmanship and unprofessionalism. I'm embarresed for him and mortified at what my tenants must think of my judgement.
Description of Work: Leftys Handyman Service (Derek Edenshaw) was hired to do minor cosmetic finish work in a rental until. Work completed (?) includes tile backsplash behind the stove, some painting, floorboard trim, bathroom vent, small wall cutout mudding. There was a punchlist of items that were not completed. The work was done poorly (an understatement).

'He was rushed during the job. He didn't always show when he said he was going to. The quality of the finish work was poor.
Description of Work: The toilet had a leak. He and his crew came in and repaired the leak and replaced the floor and subfloor. In putting down the tile in the bathroom he did a hurried job. He called us on his way to an out of town job and said he was not happy with his work and he would call us when he got back. He was going to relay the tile for no extra charge. We called him 3X in July the following year and he said he would get back to us. He did not follow through and relay the tile as promised.

I've used Leffy on a couple occasions, regretting it both times. He redid a kitchen floor and didn't correctly hook up the dishwasher. I had to go back and do that. That is a real problem when it is a rental unit. Against my better judgment, I used him again to paint another rental. He would set up a time and not show up. He took a great deal of time getting the work "completed." When he was done, there were some walls that had to be repainted, others had to be touched up, a bath cabinet was not painted inside (although part of the deal), the clean-up was bad with paint oversprayed on the vinyl in the bath and kitchen, holes were not repaired before painting, appliances were supposed to be cleaned and I had to do that myself, there were some ventilation covers that were taken off and apparently thrown away. I'm not even sure where to get replacements for those. I had him rip out carpet which was ruined by a previous tenant and asked him to save a portion of it as "evidence" which he did not. I would never use him again.
Description of Work: Floor repair in one job and painting and cleaning in another, both in rental units.

Lefty did not show up to do repairs when promised. He would show up and do a small amount of work then need to leave. Never returned when he said he would, he was either hours late or the next day. He never did complete the job.
Description of Work: We needed drywall repairs due to plumbing problems.
