Between 2009 and 2014 or so, they did furnace maintenance and repair. They wouldn't combine a service and a maintenance visit...insisting on charging for a 2nd visit to come back and clean. That is regardless of the fact that the furnace they installed in 2009 for about $13K, quit working. They would neither comp any of the multiple repair visits that occurred between 2009 and 2012, nor would they clean the furnace on the same visit to repair it. When I finally refused to pay for a service visit immediately following a repair, I was referred to the service manager. I only include this to say that the tone of the service manager was so condescending, patronizing and chauvinistic, there was no point in having a conversation unless you have a male voice. Also, if you're hot water heater has a leak or fails, beware of the prompt service visit with a pre-printed bid in the truck. ...for $3,000 for a new water heater and $4,000+ if you want the 'really good' one.
Description of Work: New 95% efficiency furnace in 2009 or so, multiple visits to repair it when it quit and multiple service visits.

I was NOT impressed with the tech that was sent to my home. He could not differentiate between the well tank and the water heater! He then chased spiders down (while I watched) to smash them with his fingers. I'm paying for a plumber - not a spider hunter!

Senior mechanic John worked alone on both the estimate and repairs. There was no charge for the estimate. Although I had asked for estimates for both repair and replacement of the boiler with a new energy efficient one, he convinced me that I would be happier repairing the old one, and didn't try to sell me a new one. He says boilers like mine are all over town and quite reliable. The new energy efficient models require more frequent and expensive service and sometimes shut completely down when certain things go wrong, whereas the standard models like I have may leak and bang when parts are wearing out, but keep on working. He said Klebs stocks all the parts for my current boiler, and carries all the parts they need in their vans. I called them in the first place because of a leak from the pressure relief drain pipe. The safety relief system was worn out. The water heater and boiler were originally installed very close together so that it was almost impossible to work on the relief tank. By changing the position of the boiler and water heater relief pipes and installing the new pressure tank on the wall, he made it so the system can be easily serviced and repaired in the future, and so that if the water heater or boiler get a leak, I can see immediately where the leak is coming from. I have had the boiler inspected previously for replacement estimates, but John was the first mechanic I have encountered who seemed 100% knowledgeable about this model, and quite candid in discussing the options (not focused on selling me a new one). He was able to do the estimate during my lunch hour so I didn't have to use annual leave. While doing the repair he worked steadily, and cleaned up after himself. When I called the day after repairs to say a zone wasn't working, he made a trip back to trouble shoot (again during the lunch hour), quickly identified the problem (a thermostat), fixed it in just a few minutes and didn't charge for the extra trip.
Description of Work: Boiler repair and service. Drain, fill, purge, flush, add 8-way cleaner; replace & relocate expansion tank, replace & relocate safety relief (pipe to front), replace pressure regulator, full boiler service, flush water heater, return trip to fix non-functioning zone (minor thermostat repair).

Our experience with Klebs was a nightmare. We hired Klebs to perform the above-mentioned work. They scheduled us for two days in March, but then showed up understaffed. Two guys came out--one tech and one trainee who had only been on the job for a few days. The two techs were not able to complete the work in the two days. Further, they caused substantial damage to our home and property (scratched walls, left a door off the hinges, dented our fridge, tracked mud on our rug, utilized our bathroom extensively without cleaning up or even flushing!). We were told by the project manager--who was not on site while the work was performed--that the damage would not have occurred had he been there instead of at another job and had the project been properly staffed. After the two days, it took several weeks to get anyone from Klebs to come back out and finish the projects. (In fact, they never actually did finish the projects.) Promise after promise to finish the job, to make up for the damage to our home, and to replace a faulty part on our combi unit were continually broken. (Klebs did end up knocking $150 off our bill for banging up our brand new fridge, but refused to compensate us for the additional damage, the fact that all of their labor failed and/or was not up to code, and refused to replace the faulty valve.) About a week after they installed the combi unit, we were without heat and hot water. We called Mountain Mechanical and they sent out a polite, professional, and knowledgeable technician right away. Within minutes, he was able to diagnose the problem. Klebs had failed to attach the exhaust vent to the system! They had just rested the exhaust vent in place, allowing exhaust to leak into our home instead of being directed outside. Because it was not attached, the vent was easily knocked out of place. And, without the vent in place, exhaust (co2) built up in the system, causing it to shut off. Mountain Mechanical properly attached the vent. A few days later, late in the evening, we were without heat or hot water again. Mountain Mechanical walked us through the error code and re-setting the unit over the phone at no charge. When the heat went out again the next day, Mountain Mechanical came out right away. Klebs had not correctly set the pressure/temp of the unit during install. Mountain Mechanical fixed Klebs error efficiently. Throughout the entire month-long ordeal, Klebs' representatives were rude, aggressive, and dishonest. We initially chose to hire them after receiving three bids for the project because they were the cheapest and because they talked the talk when they were pursuing the contract. As soon as the deposit was received, this courteous customer service disappeared. Further, between all of the things we've had to have fixed (the above problems with our combi as well as having the hose bib and ceiling fan re-done), we've probably spent more than if we had gone with the most expensive bid. Additionally, the stress of dealing with such an unprofessional company and the damage to our home were so terrible and not worth whatever money we thought we might save by hiring them.
Description of Work: We hired Klebs to install a combi water/boiler system as well as two bathroom ceiling fans and replace a hose bib. Klebs installed the combi--with several installation errors and a defective part, installed one bathroom fan (but did not do it to code), and improperly installed the hose bib.

My appointment was from 10-12. Wayne called at 9:31 (I checked my phone for the exact time). I called him right back and had him meet me at my house. He arrived at 10:00 am. He finished his work at 1:10pm. They charged me for 4 hours of labor! Wayne said he called me at 9:20 am and that is when Klebs charges their hourly rate. They charged me an extra hour ($148) for travel time! I checked my phone after and he had called at 9:31. That was never mentioned to me when I set the appointment. I think Wayne is trying to squeeze as much money out of the customer as he can. I have a list of repairs that need to be done and I just don't trust Klebs. I called another company. They were upfront that travel time will be $31.50. I will have them confirm that my expansion tank needs to be replaced. Wayne obviously knew his stuff and is very capable and professional, but I do not trust that he has my best interest in mind.

I purchased a 95% efficiency furnace from Klebs. Several times, it quit during periods of cold weather. Klebs would send someone out, charge me for a maintenance or charge me to look at it (would never do both at the same time to save $$). When I asked them to stand behind their product and ensure that it would not quit again, or not charge me for one of the many service visits; the service manager became very condescending and patronizing...lecturing me on what I should learn to expect from their services. Seemed he felt he needed to 'school the little lady.' Needless to say, they lost my business.

The person who scheduled us was friendly. They were able to see us the next business day. The employees who came were friendly and answered all the questions we had. They were extra careful when taping off vents and when they used the equipment around our furniture. The whole process only took a few hours, but they ran out of the disinfectant spray used afterwards and it took three more hours to wait for it. I would mark the score lower because of that, but they were so nice.

I bought my home in 2004 and it was built in 1984. Needless to say, my home is no spring chick. I had the furnace(probably the original furnace to the home) serviced twice with Klebs. Those were approximately fall of 2006 and 2009 respectively. Each of the times the furnace was serviced, the technicians that showed up were courteous, timely, and cleaned up after themselves. As for the cost, I felt it was on par with what preventative maintenance should be. In early September 2012, our furnace decided it had had enough, and would come back on after sitting all summer not being run. I called for estimates from Klebs and two other companies. My husband and I decided on a high efficiency Lennox furnace to be installed by Klebs. Klebs techs came, saw, and conquered! My husband was home during the installation process. When the installation took place, the air ventilation stacks were sticking about 3 feet out of the side of my house. I came home to find them this way and threw a fit! It looked atrocious! The techs were already gone when I got home. I called and requested that the ventilation pipes be moved and although this was NOT convenient the techs came back and moved the pipes from the sides of my house to go through the roof instead. The estimate was the final cost even though I asked for additional work to fix the eyesore on the side of my house. I definitely got my moneys worth out of Klebs! Fast forward 2 years. As a homeowner, I know it is my job to change the filter on my furnace. I hadn't. Bad homeowner! Our furnace shut down once because there was too much condensation in the little box that is supposed to catch all of it and dispose of it. That was the winter of record breaking snowfall and the furnace just couldn't keep up with it. On February 1st, the furnace went out again. It was super cold outside and we decide to use our wood burning stove to offset the lack of heat. We didn't think that anyone would be able to get to us on the weekend, but thought we'd call Klebs to schedule a time for them to come out and take a look at the furnace. We found that they have 24 hour emergency service and went ahead to ask for them to come out that evening. The operator called the tech, who called us directly back. Wayne was our tech and was courteous over the phone. He let us know there would be a bit of a wait. We went on to set an appointment for 9 Sunday morning. 9 on Sunday came and went. At 10, I called to see what happened. Wayne called me back a few minutes later. Another service call ran longer than expected. Wayne showed up at 11. He promptly got to work. He got the error codes and made a recommendation to fix what he thought the problem was. $60 for the part and $400 for labor which was time and a half for coming out on a Sunday. I was pleased when Wayne left because my furnace was fixed. Then Monday came. The furnace shut down again. I was not so happy then. I called and Klebs was to my rescue again. This furnace is turning into the vein of my existence! I asked them to wait to send someone out until Thursday to check it out since that was my day off. They were very accommodating in my request. Thursday came and John was my tech this time. My husband made arrangements for them to arrive I think at 8 this time. For whatever reason, 8 came and went, no John. He did call and was on his way. When he got here, he got to work straight away and had to call Lennox directly for help with this darn blasted machine. Turns out, there was some recall of some innards of the furnace that we did not get. He got the furnace working again with a temporary fix and made arrangements to come back when the replacement parts arrived. When the replacement parts did arrive, John was PROMPTLY to my house at 8 am sharp. He replaced the innards that he needed to replace and because I was supposed to get the recalled parts and hadn't, I didn't have to pay a red cent for all the extra time spent. Klebs and their techs gave excellent customer service. My only gripe, and it's a small one, is the timeliness of when the techs showed up. If you tell me you are going to be here at 9 am, then be here at 9 am or a few minutes early. Tardiness will lose my business if I have never worked with you before and don't know what great service you give.

This review is for service performed about 3 years ago, but seeing more recent reviews I thought I'd share my own experience to help get the word out. I originally posted this review on google before I was a member of angieslist, so here goes. Watch out for these guys- he lied to my face, and smiled while he did it. BEWARE, FURNACE REPLACEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS FROM KLEBS ARE A RACKET!! Here's how he told me I'd have to spend $5500 when in fact all that was wrong was a $215.00 part: I had them out to look at our furnace that wasn't working, and instead of doing a real inspection they poked around, did a CO2 test, then condemned and recommended replacement of entire system. He made a very good case, was very friendly, and I almost fell for it. Fortunately I have a friend in the business, and had him come over-- all that was wrong was that it needed a good cleaning, and a new circuit board. Total bill? $215.00 for board and cleaning and it's working like a champ!!! He saved me over $5000- that's FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS of hard earned money that Klebs wanted me to spend. You can imagine I was pretty angry!!! I have learned that a lot of places here in Anchorage try to get people to replace the furnace instead of repairing it. Even a bottom of the line furnace should last at least 30 years. Make sure to educate yourself before making any decisions and don't believe what they tell you if they say it's not fixable, and always get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Now to be fair, a good friend of ours had Klebs install a brand new furnace and they were happy with their experience, I just don't recommend them for repair work unless you want to spend a LOT of extra money. Best of luck!

Unfortunately the furnace failed again a few days later. It appeared to be the same failure code and problem. Same tech was re-dispatched to use that afternoon - he re-did the repair, perhaps a bit more thoroughly, and the furnace has worked fine since. No charge was assessed for the return visit.
Description of Work: Our gas/forced air furnace shut down and would not fire up properly. The house did not have heat. I called the day after Thanksgiving at 9am and had a tech at the house before lunch at standard rates. Very professional and courteous, the tech explained what was wrong and tweaked remaining settings on the furnace in a addition to the repair.

The crew was prompt and completed the job in two long days which was expected. There were some minor adjustments which needed to be made after the install but Kleb's was very responsive in completing this. They offer a very good warranty package as part of the purchase and service their own equipment. They also have staff on call in the event there are problems over the weekends holidays etc.

I made an appointment for 2 days later. I was told 9:30 so I figured I could still make a noon meeting. I called at 9:30 to make sure someone was coming. They said that Wayne was still at the office as their and quot;meeting ran long.and quot; He called a few minutes later saying he was on his way but was still 30 minutes late. Wayne was very pleasant, but I was frustrated the appointment was scheduled with the possibility their meeting might run late. After Wayne took the circulator apart he noted a piece needed to be replaced and that he had to go buy. It was very frustrating to me that possible replacement parts were not readily available on the truck given they knew what part was leaking. I had to pay $25 for travel and $148/hr labor for him to run get the part. Perhaps I am naive, but $620 seemed very excessive for a simple repair. There were shut-off valves on each side of the circulator, so minimal plumbing was involved. Wayne did good work and was nice to work with, but I think the $296 labor cost was excessive.

Where to begin on this one......I called on a Monday morning and was told someone could come Tuesday around 1:00. I asked if the time was dependable. I had been invited to enjoy the Alaska sunshine with some friends. She said yes, so I booked it to get it over with. When he hadn't shown up at 2:00, I called. I was told I would be next on his list, so I waited it out. He finally showed up just after 3. I had been told the inspection would take 1 to 1-1/2 hours. He asked that I remove some items from the work area, which I did. Half an hour later he told me that everything looked good, but and quot;if I wanted him to write a clean bill of health, I should let him clean it.and quot; I'm selling, so of course I want a clean bill of health! I told him to what he needed to do. At 5:30!!, he told me I needed some additional work done, which would mean overtime. I said no way! He said he needed to pack up and create an invoice. That took 15 minutes, which he billed me for. I was hit for $437, which included $5 for a part, $25 for making the drive, a $30 misc fee, and the rest for 2.75 hours of labor. The next day, I talked to my RE agent who said that the charge is usually around $150. I chatted with the buyers agent who said she just had hers inspected and cleaned for $125. At this point, I'm furious. I've posted a review on yelp and facebook. I decided to contact Klebs for an explanation. I spoke to a very nice gentleman (John) who said he would look into it. He called back to tell me that their company allows a maximum of 1-1/2 hours (around $150) for the work that was done. He will talk to Wayne, and most likely make a credit back to my credit card for any overcharges. I'm very thankful that he was responsive, but I have a feeling this has happened before. He told me that Wayne is very and quot;meticulousand quot;. I told him that I call that slow. He said he was trying to be nice. I pointed out that his niceness was costing me, and others, money. He agreed. And that invitation from friends that I ended up missing?? They had planned to surprise me with a birthday cake that day. But I spent my day (the hottest on record for that day) sweltering as I waited....and waited. July 13 update: Refund has been received, but the facts remain as stated.

We have a two year old furnace that works intermittently. Klebs had originally installed the furnace and came out on many service calls trying to fix it. After paying more than $1,000.00 in repair bills to Klebs (all labor), the problem was still not corrected. We called another furnace repair company and they diagnosed our issue as an installation problem. After contacting Klebs about this, they would only re-vent the system and our appointment would be weeks later. We had to pay another company to fix the most desperate issues that would allow us to have continual heat. Klebs has refused to refund any of the labor charges, or compensate for $397 repair bill we had to pay another company although they did come out and warranty the venting which was too small according to the installation manual and Lennox Technical Help. The furnace still needs additional work to level it in order for the condensation to drain properly, as both the other Furnace Company and Lennox have recommended. Both companies have confirmed that our house and furnace mounting surface show no signs of settling issues, just the furnace itself is unleveled, which does not allow gravity condensate drainage. It appears our only option for reimbursement from Klebs is small claims court. I would recommend that anyone needing a new furnace or even a furnace repair to not go through Klebs unless small claims court is something that interests them!!!!
Description of Work: Although my furnace passed Klebs M.O.A. mechanical inspection, it was not installed properly! Buyer beware of Klebs poor furnace installation issues!! Initially (9/18/12), Klebbs was called to my house due to my furnace not heating. The two thermostat critical alert codes were captured and used for diagnosis as the furnace had to be reset multiple times per day (to keep heating) and were not present during the service call. During this 9/18/12 Klebbs diagnosed that the Blower motor & control were at fault and parts were ordered. In addition to diagnosing the critical alert error which was preventing our unit from heating, the service man was able to convince us to sign up for the Star Service Plan. The total bill for this service call (diagnosis & service) came to $276.55. On 9/28/12, Klebs installed the new blower motor & control and charged us $124.90. Within 48 hours the Lennox heating system began exhibiting the exact same heating issues as occurred (i.e., not heating) causing the original service call on 9/18/12. 10/1/12 Once again we had the same critical alert codes on our furnace and Klebs came out for a service call. After spending the majority of the day working on my furnace, calling Lennox Technical Help Line more than once which resulted in replacing multiple parts, I thought my furnace had finally been repaired. The resulting charge from Klebs for the10/1/12 service call was $765.00. At this point, I was getting very concerned with Klebs level of service and the fact that I have to pay more than once for the same diagnosis. I phoned Jeff Robinson with Klebs and stated my case. Jeff was confused regarding the original service call and stated that they were called out for routine maintenance. I explained to Jeff that the codes which caused me to call them originally for the Critical alert Service call (i.e., my furnace was not heating) were the exact same and I had pictures to prove this. Jeff would not accept my explanation as Klebs paperwork was not 100% consistent. Jeff informed me that the only way I would be eligible to get any reimbursement would be to write a letter to Lennox Customer Service. The letter was written to Lennox customer Service on October 8, 2012, which outlined the dates, service calls, provided the total charges below and asked for help associated with these excessive charges. The total charges outlined in the letter for September & October 2012 are ($276.55 +$124.90 + $765.00) = $1166.45. Klebs gave us a $124.90 discount on our last bill, partially re-vented the unit with the proper venting, but declined to reimburse and or fix the rest of the recommendations made by another certified Lennox Dealer that would bring this furnace into proper installation code. To date we have not received any follow-up from Lennox Customer Service and we had to turn to another heating contractor to diagnose and repair. The sad part was we trusted these folks and were talked into purchasing a Klebs Star Program Contract before we knew the problems were from installation error and not the Lennox Furnace itself. While Klebs also has said they would provide a one year warranty, we already are covered by the Lennox Company and Star Service Plan too. The worst part is that my furnace still has issues and we have been informed from Klebs that they will not fix the issues.

I called for an appointment from out of state to get the ducts cleaned and furnace inspected before the sale of our home. I got an appointment within 2 days of calling and the cleaning was completed. I didn't get to see the house after the cleaning but would have heard if there were any problems. The furnace was serviced and a problem was found. The technician called me and got my permission to replace a part. The duct cleaning was $250. I have used them for at least 7 years to service the gas furnace and hot water heater, always very professional and friendly.
Description of Work: We were selling out 1040 square foot house and had the furnace inspected and ducts cleaned.

We were satisified with the overall quality and effectiveness of the work. This was such a big job they scheduled for three full days but because they started every morning at 8am and stayed past 5pm each day they were able to finish within two days. We were really happy they only allowed the heat to be turned off for one day and the water was able to stay on the whole two days. They put plastic down to make sure they didn't ruin the carpet and they cleaned everything up when they left. I provided them with a B on price only because they were a bit more expensive than their competitors. However, the warranty offered on their products is much better. After they were done with the installation we noticed the water heater was making a really loud noise. They were able to send someone out the same afternoon we called. The service man fixed it quickly and we haven't had an issue with anything else since the installation. Overall I would recommend Klebs over other competitors because of their experience, timeliness, and professionalism.
Description of Work: Klebs replaced our water heater, boiler and garage heater.

Richard is great! After not working for 2 days, and cold Alaska nights coming on, we finally had to have the furnace fixedes;espcially after the previous night was below freezing. Richard kept us informed the during the whole process, and even told us that the problem probably originated a while ago, our limit was broken and whomever worked on it before Klebs just stuffed the piece back into the hole instead of fixing it. All in all the price was a bit high, but that is to be expected when you call after hours, but the service is impeccable and our furnace is once again running.
Description of Work: Our furnace stopped working during their after hours price range, otherwise I know that their rates are not so high; but Richard was great. We called to have the furnace inspected to figure out why it wasn't functioning properly.

I've had multiple bids/estimates from KLEBS, and selected them three times now to repair and install a boiler in my house, fix other contractors' mistakes, and maintain a commercial (rental property) for me. I have recommended them to family and friends - foremost because of their ability to address my concerns as a home owner/buyer and manager ABOVE collecting a bill. I've dealt with about 6 other mechanical contractors in Anchorage with far less positive results. They were willing to work with me to provide estimates through a complicated Wells Fargo 203(k) rehab home loan to install a boiler and didn't hound me about the bank's lengthy payment process. While they were not the rock-bottom price bidder, they weren't the highest either, and they performed well beyond expected value at a median price. And afterward, they responded to emergency repairs, both at home and on another rental unit of mine during the coldest of winter nights. To do that while maintaining a reasonable rate was pretty impressive. As a property manager, I can tell you the scariest expenses are most often the plumbing and mechanical. The peace of mind, expertise and service they have provided has reduced those fears because I know my loyalty to them will be reciprocated. I deal with the same people on staff and they care about the relationship.
Description of Work: Routine bids/estimates; home mechanical inspection and safety assessment of current system; emergency repairs on frozen pipes in January; emergency repairs for failed zone valves; routine/preventative maintenance; reconficuration of zones for better efficiency on high-efficiency boiler system; and complete installation of new boiler system.

They have provided excellent service. I have been using them for a number of years. I use them because they are excellent, honest and give straight forward quotes with no hidden fees. They come out immediately when called because heating is needed here in Anchorage because you would freeze to death.
Description of Work: I have used them several times of the past few years.

Klebs is definitely the best if you have a Lennox. They did an excellent job. I got a reasonable price. They were on time like they said they were. I have not been happier. I would surely use them again and recommend them.

They are very good. We have them come out twice a year to check the boiler. They charge us $125.00 for the check-up. They had installed a new heating system 3 or 4 years ago.
Description of Work: Klebs Heating Plumbing & Air Quality came out in November to check our boiler. They may also do plumbing.
