Jensen Construction (Dave Jensen and two crew members, all named Dave, easy for those of us who have trouble remembering names) had a busy summer and could not promise to get to my job for a few months (so keep that in mind when planning), but they were able to come in less than that time. They accommodated me by providing railing wood ahead of time so that I could pre-paint, and furnished some materials that made the painting easier. He subcontracted sinking of Techno-piles. This went quietly (esp. compared to piles) and made for a less messy appearance than sauna tubes. Over the course of 3.5 days, the Dave's regularly arrived around 9:30am and left around 5, though Dave Jensen worked late one evening to get the work to a logical breaking point. All seems to have been done professionally--one can't really tell at this point whether the concrete will crack in a year or two, but to the untrained eye, all looks very good. The railings and grip hold are particularly nicely done. Dave also had an idea for a slight expansion, which my wife and I liked and gave the go-ahead for. At the end of the project, the crew cleaned up very well.
Description of Work: Removed 3 concrete steps and tore down old outside wood stairs and landing to second-story door and then replaced them, slightly expanding the landing.

thank you for the review, always nice to have the customer happy with the final product. I have been doing a lot of decks this year, nice to work outside when the weather is nice. We sometimes spend the early mornings getting materials for jobs or looking at jobs folks want me to bid on, hard to make time for it all, since I do not have a big crew. Sometimes easier to catch people in the early evenings to look at their projects after working all day, mostly I reserve every other Saturday for checking out new jobs to bid. At this point in the season I still have other outdoor work to do and an still booked out quite a bit, so call early so I can get you on my list, because at this time of the summer I am about to end taking on more decks. It is time to start moving towards inside work, although I still will be doing short jobs outdoor in the winter, so long as it is not below zero degrees. I love doing custom interior trim/ finish, and cabinets carpentry, I have done a lot of it on new custom homes for over 25 years

Once again, I am writing a rave review about Dave Jensen and the family members making up his team. Dave built a beautiful deck for me last summer, so I contacted him this year to see if he could add a 9-ft extension to the cedar boundary fence along the entry to my condo complex. I called him late in the construction season when he was already booked for the summer, but he said he would try to fit me in between jobs. He contacted me about three weeks later saying he could build it the following day. His team of three quickly set up their equipment and efficiently completed the job in under three hours, leaving the area neat and clean, as always. I will definitely call on Dave for future projects.

thanks for the return work, the job was small but I don't mind some of these one day wonders, as I call them. It helps fill in time between big jobs and not so hard to fit into my busy schedule. I also appreciate it when I get calls from customers that got my # from a friend or work associate of theirs as recommendation to have me do a job for them. When you do good work word gets around, just as if a company does poor work that will get around. I think I will stick to doing excellent work.

I had a cedar deck built several years ago by a contractor and the quality of workmanship was not what I expected. The selection process for a contractor to build my new back deck took two years. I had to convince myself there was a contractor that could build what I wanted, at a decent price, with quality craftsmanship. Well my process was slow but I found the right contractor for the job. Dave and his crew arrived when he said they would and they completed the deck much quicker than I expected. They stained the pressure treated portion of the deck to match the color of the Trex. They kept the work area clean during the construction and didn't leave a scrap of garbage when they left. I appreciate a job well done by true craftsman that care about the quality of their work!!

thanks for putting your faith in us to do your job to satisfaction. The two toned deck turned out good, I personally like the light brown trex boards on the deck, that match the house paint and the dark brown rails and facia, that match the house trim color. I let the customer chose what he wanted to do, and the two toned deck is a first, usually decks are all the same color, but I may suggest two tone option to others in the future.
Dave and his crew (the other two Dave's) went above and beyond, our carpet was the original carpet from 1979; it was very worn. Our floor was not level; they leveled our floor and took the time, more time than they had scheduled to do a stupendous job. They also repaired jobs not done right by other contractors. When they spliced the trim after removing the fireplace I could not tell where it was spliced. When the fireplace was removed they put up dry wall and also re-pop-corned our ceiling you almost cannot tell where the work was done and when I repaint the line where the new dry wall was put in will not show. I also am the envy of our neighborhood as when Dave put laminate in our front closet where the access to our crawlspace is he also put a latch for the crawlspace. We had also asked Dave to fix the steps to our shed he took the time to level them and disconnect them from the floor of the shed. I am amazed at the quality workmanship every time I go into the shed. Also we were having an issue with our screen door that was pulling off the hinges Dave fixed this without us even asking him to. I have also by word of mouth recommended this company to my neighbors and friends. I really appreciated the job that Dave and his crew did. I apologize for getting this review in so late.

the house did have a lot of sub floor issues, no sub floor adhesive, squeeks and loose sheeting. we re-nailed most all of the sub floor and we jacked up and beefed up the floor joists by the entry, used a lot of leveling floor patch in several area, to get the floor flat before installing laminate flooring. Other than that the job went smooth and turned out great, they love it

Glad you are happy with the work. When I went to this house I suggested taking out the 12 ft x12ft. drop ceiling. The customer had not thought about doing that, so I said why not have that extra one foot of height? They liked the idea, since the the height was only 7 ft from the floor. The area above the cabinets with the cracked glass plastic panels and 4 ft. florescent lights had never been finished with sheetrock mud or texture. We finished it off and installed 9 led flush mount can lights, which looked great and put out plenty of light and do not use much electricity.
Dave was very helpful in selecting materials and skillful at modifying existing cabinets and vent as needed for installation of microwave and vent. Quick response to request for estimate and doing the work.

the customer originally wanted to replace range hood, so I mentioned the option to put in a over the range microwave. She had not know there was such a appliance with the fan and light built in, she opted for the microwave. We had hard wired power to the old range hood, so we just ran the wire into a new cut in box with outlet receptical for the microwave and hook into exsisting ductwork that vented out the ceiling. I also install a more powerful, quiet bath fan with night light and light. Put a new programmable thermostat in so she could set her heat temps as needed, since she works out of town for extended periods. Nice person to work with and the job went smooth

Dave and David did a nice job tearing out a huge bay window, enlarging the hole and installing a new, straight window. Great job on all the finish work, happy with the result. They also tore out my fake rock wood burning fireplace in preparation for a new gas fireplace to be installed. Tough work with several snags but they handled them. Appreciate their flexibility working with me as I decided on new fireplace details. Dave made the new mantel on site, very nice! While up on the roof they noticed a portion of my back roof was in very bad shape, so they made room in their schedule to replace that with something much better than we had. Their construction knowledge makes them very capable to handle many types of jobs. Thought they were very fair in their price, and didn't gouge me with add ons. Dave is very meticulous in keeping receipts so you know what you're paying for. In the end, left things tidy and swept out the garage where they had done lots of cutting.

thanks for the review, the job went pretty smooth. Customer had a lot of different ideas, so we just drew out some sketches and laid out some sample blocks of mantle side view designs and trim options so she could better visualize what the final product would look like. That changed a little after she had the chance to think it over overnight before we proceeded the next day. In the end it helped her get what she would be happy with for the next 20 years or so. The roof was an addition on the back of the house with a torch down flat roof which was coming off bad in some areas and worn out overall. It only had 2x6 rafters with only r-19 insulation in the ceiling. We installed 2inchs of blue board styrafoam panels on plywood roof, after the old torch down was removed, which gave it another r-10 of insulation value. Install a one piece rubber roof over the roof and 3 ft. up the pitched portion of the house to get away from any possible ice dam seepage. So in the end it saved the roof from future water damage and condensation problems that the mention were having at times, the roof would start rotting from the inside out it we would not have added the blue board to the top of it. I'm happy to point out and explain any problems I see at a home that can be brought to the homeowners attention. By the the, way here is a funny problem we also fixed at this house, I noticed the flapper for the bath fan ducting on the outside was missing, just a pipe sticking out. I told my son to put his hand over it as I turned on the fan, no air coming out, I told the owner that she probably had a old birds nest in it. We went up in attic to check pipe, and sure enough there was, took it out with long coat hanger and installed it back on wall with new outdoor vent with closing flapper. Funny but the bath would seem to have running fan but doing nothing, causing moisture problems in bathroom

Dave and David were working at my house for most of a week. I was acting as my own GC with Dave just installing the beam and the door. There was a lot more work to be done later and both Dave and David were very helpful with tip and tricks for the next stages of my kitchen remodel. Just watching them work I learned a lot. That being said I wish I had asked Dave to do more of my remodel due to his attention to detail and skill. I have some crazy texture and he matched it so well I can hardly see the seams even though I haven?t painted yet. He kept everything clean and organized when he left for the day and left a completely clean job site when finished. Dave is a very busy man, but definitely worth the wait. Get on his schedule early.

I should be on the show 'This old house". It seems we have been doing quite a bit of work on very old houses lately, ones that have been added onto a couple times. These homes can be challenging, due to the fact codes were not very strict back then and owners did a lot of the work themselves. These customers had just bought the house not to long ago and we found some interesting construction that had been done and changed over the many remodels the house has seen. The beam we installed was to open up the kitchen to the living room. The house has roof "Trusses', but homemade, non engineered type. A newer home of this type would have roof trusses that take the load of the snow across the span of the entire house. I inspected the attic and decided we needed a large capacity load glue lam beam. After the beam was installed, when the wall was removed, it looked like the room was huge due to the open concept we created. Also took out a window and put in a 6ft wide sliding glass door, that needed a beam across the top. We found the old window opening that was 5 feet wide only had a 4x4 as a beam! Needless to say it needed a 4x12 fir beam ,which is standard for most window and door headers. The house is now stronger that it was before, never know when a record snowfall season may come. They are ready for it anytime now.

thank you for the time that was taken to write a review for us. Not all of my customers take the time after a job is finished, so it is much appreiciated. The job went smooth and we got the floor back in good shape, by replacing only some of it, fortunetly there was some flooring that was extra from ten years ago that had been stored in the boiler room. That is always a good idea to have an extra box when installing a new laminate or wood floor. Sometimes it get discontinued and can not get it anymore. The cabinet doors just all needed adjustment, most newer cabinet doors have three way adjustable hinges, which makes them easy to adjust.

It took a while for Dave and I to get together on a schedule, he's a busy man. Dave was always responsive to my inquiries and once we started, a job that I had allowed 2 weeks for was done one! This was a difficult installation in that each new window had to have new casing and trim (inside and out) and was done in 5 different occupied units of a very small 8 plex. Dave and crew were respectful of our tenants and their homes, they put down drop cloths right away and always left the units clean, secure and neat. I'm a finish carpenter as well as a landlord with extensive remodel experience and very high standards. If Jansen Construction can satisfy me, I think anyone will be happy with their work. (To be fair, I assisted on this project to make sure it would go quickly) I only gave Dave "B"s because a couple of times he didn't get to the job until later in the morning (he called) and he has a habit of multi-tasking (blue tooth wireless phone) while working. C'mon Dave, when you're working for me, I want to know I'm #1! I WOULD AND WILL use Jansen Construction in the future and have no hesitation in recommending them.

Thanks for the review, we did these windows right in the middle of winter, lucky we had a semi warm week. Had to do one unit, two windows per day due to the tenants, which were very understanding. The windows turned out great, foam insulated frames and jamb extentions, caulked along all trim inside and spackled all nail holes. I am a small company so I am the secretary, estimator, bidder, worker, etc, It can get hectic having new customers call me during the day, to talk about doing a job for them, most of the time I answer, instead of returning the call at the end of the day. Sometimes I have to look at jobs during the day due to being worn out from working all day and not finding the time to look at a new job after 6:00 pm. Lots of times I take Saturdays to look at new jobs and work on bids on sundays, so I do multi task for sure, most jobs are by bid, not by the hour so no worries. I wish I could get someone to do those tasks for me, but nobody can do my estimates and bids, I need a clone. I pride myself in top quality work and am to picky to hire people other than a laborer for rough carpentry type jobs, so it is just me Dave Jensen and my son, who has been working with me for 12 years, he knows the level or quality that I demand. I will be getting buried in work soon so call now to get on my schedule. We are already 3 weeks out on jobs, it will get to approx. 2 months by june.
Dave and son Dave exceeded my wildest expectations. Based on highly positive reviews on Angie's List I contacted Dave for a bid - which was done very promptly and with excellent communication. Honestly, I knew this was going to be a really hard job, and even with a great provider I had minimal expectations. Dave hit this one out of the park. He got that floor as flat a billard table and as smooth as a baby's bottom. He then proceeded to do a perfect, seamless, one-piece vinyl shot that frankly I did not realize could be done. Better still was his eye for detail, and spotting other little problem areas. He recommended some very easy fixes that offered great benefit - but not in a way I felt pressured to act (and in fact I felt very "taken care of"). Also greatly welcomed was the professionalism shown in work habits, promptness, cleanliness, etc. Saying I'm stoked is a gross understatement. I knew ahead of time that you have to be a bit patient with getting on Dave's schedule (but he is very honest about the timelines) - but man is it ever worth the wait! I have already made sure I'm in the queue for some outside work this summer.
Description of Work: Several jobs - the largest of which was a nasty, nasty kitchen flooring job to fix a concrete slab floor (with utility trenches) that had problems dating back to the 50s, then apply new vinyl flooring. Other work included rehabilitation and weather-proofing of the front and rear doors, custom thresholds, trim, and the rehanging of my stand alone storage building's double doors and interior trim finish.

This was a simple in and out job. Did not take to long, but I don't mind doing small jobs. The customer was happy and that is all that matters. So don't hesitate to call for even the smallest amount of work that needs to be completed at your home.
This was supposed to be a fairly small, one day job. The project was to remove a wall that was installed to house a big screen tv. Behind this wall was supposed to be a wall that had been completed during the building of the house. An easy demolition and clean up job. However when the wall was removed the back wall was not completed, or even sheet rocked. This now became a much bigger job, requiring much more time, labor, and materials. Even though Dave was on a very tight schedule he never complained and did his due diligence and took his time and made sure the project was done to mine and his satisfaction. He is very meticulous and caring in his work. He goes the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. I am very impressed by his and his son's work and work ethic. He also made sure every thing was picked up and clean when he left the job site. Definite 4 stars.

Thank you for calling jensen construction and thanks for the review. I was told the pop out wall was built after the jome was finished i figured just fill in a few nail holes then prime and paint. That was not the case so as stated in the review we had to re visqueen the exterior wall after adjusting the insulation to fit after removal of framing attached to that wall.It was getting into the holiday season so i did not have as tight of schedule. So on with the new sheetrock mud tape texture. The job turned out good and homeowner is happy that is what matters. It went great. Dave knows what he's doing, and his crew was awesome. They needed so much material, we had to get some from the Home Depot in Kenai, as we cleaned out the Anchorage area. The house was built in the 80's, and the deck was a major attraction. Lately, there was rotting in some areas, and it shook when my dog walked on it. It was great having someone trustworthy that did a quality job. When they found weird building materials in the old deck, they pointed that out to us. They also showed us what the improvements were. No more shaking on the deck. They improved on it, and I suspect if the house ever falls in, the deck will still be standing! The rails are like the finished rails inside the house. Absolutely beautiful. Composite boards, treated lumber, stained. The deck was done in a very reasonable amount of time, and at a reasonable cost. No surprises at the end.
Description of Work: Dave and his crew built us a new deck, 2,200 feet worth of it. Dave came out between jobs, took a look around, figured out what it would take, and gave us an estimate. After getting everything together, and finding space in his schedule, they tore down the old deck, and put up a better one.I didn't put the cost down, because that's our business. Considering the time, supplies, and quality of workmanship, it was well worth it.

Thanks for the review. We camped out on this job for over 3 weeks, it was a big one. The decks went all around the home and had a large lower deck with hot tub , that had to be moved off, also a small deck jutting out of the house way up in the air from master bedroom. Really enjoyed the area in hiland road in the woods where the house is. We had about 280 5 1/4 wide x 16 feet long grooved for conceald fasteners veranda brand composite decking to install on new 2x8 deep pressure treated joists. Also rebuild the stairs and new rails to code, no more than 4 inches between pickets, old ones where 6 inches. Got the job done just before freezeup . We also use end cut preservative, no rot, no bugs, no fungus on all pressure treated lumber that we cut, that exposes fresh lumber that should be treated to maintain that it is still completely protected. I know not all contractors do that, we do. These customers where aware of each step of the build, as I explained what we were doing and why, so that could feel at ease with the whole process.

From my orginal call to the time Mr. Jensen could actually get out and do the work was a several month wait---I know why. Dave's attention to detail, his professionalism, and his fair pricing make him a commodity. All the work Dave did from the large tasks of deck repair to small touches like chalking and touch-up painting was done very well. It was clear from his work that he takes pride in doing a good job. I would definitely highly recommend Dave Jensen.
Description of Work: The better question is what didn't Dave Jensen do? Dave is clearly a perfectionist as he touched-up and fixed items around my house that I hadn't even originally noticed needed it. Mr. Jensen worked on large items that we had agreed upon including deck repair, various drywall work, and the removal of frames that were leftover from glass sliding doors in two bathrooms. He also worked on areas such as the woodwork of our banisters, replacing door hardware, and painting and chalking various areas such as our bathtubs and windows.

thanks for waiting for us to get to your job to complete the work. An appointment was made to look at the job well before we could do the work, I always tell people how far out on my schedule it will be to do the work. I bid the job about a week later, then the customer made the decision to have us do the job at the later date. It worked out for both parties. Some folks need a job done right away, most of the time I am booked out a month or so, but I can bid it much sooner so the customer won't be left hanging. I can only give a reference for someone else, if I can, depending on the type of work if they can not wait. This job was a little bit of everything, and I have been told, wants us back soon to do more small jobs on the home. They are preparing to sell the house in the next few years, good idea by the customer to take care of the details at a easy pace, and have a nice detailed look for potential buyers down the line, instead of stressful panic at the last minute.

They did a good job. They build us a 12x16 deck with railings. They also put up a cedar fence in our back yard. It look them less than a week to complete the work; about 5-6 days. It was a family business, so 3-4 workers were out there at all times. We had to wait for about a month to have the work done since their list of other clients were before us due to Alaskan summers and them being busy. He let my dog out of the kennel to let the dog run around after the fence was up. I also like that it was a family business. He went above and beyond into digging the posts for the fence and made the deck deeper than what the standards were to compensate due to wetness of the land. He was very knowledgeable and an expert about what this area needed to have and knew what he was talking about.

Thank you for the positive review, I enjoyed working on this job, had fun with there little dog having a blast chasing a ball in the newly fenced yard. We have 90 lbs labradoodle that is my job site mascot and bring him to all the jobs I can, if it is ok with the customer. Everybody loves "Chewy", he is the best mannered dog around people and other dogs, so it was a plus to have him around. I take pride in all our work and the customers seem to confirm it in the many good reviews that keep rolling in. A lot of folks don't bother giving a review when the job is done, maybe they figure we have enough already, but I appreciate every one, thank you for taking the time.

I chose Jensen Construction because of their rating on Angie's List. I was not disappointed. It took a long time for him to get to us because he is in high demand (because of his rating on Angie's List). He made it plain up front that it would be awhile. He and his son did a first class job. I will not hesitate to heartily recommend them in the future.

Time was running out for the summer outdoor work and I have been gearing towards indoor work. Even today we were installing new windows in a house. This year October has been mild, all time record warm in fact. I would remind folks to call before it gets closer to winter, due to my schedule been booked out a ways. Had a lot of folks calling me to do jobs that I just had to turn down due to not been able to do them before freeze up. I don't mind doing jobs in the winter outdoors but not a big long one, cement , not in froze ground. I myself do the same thing, I have my own home projects and play the game of trying to beat winter every year without fail. so call early. This job worked out well on the timing, no snow yet. We work year round so don't hesitate to call during the winter, I am still booked up a month out now.

I'd considered the 22' span to be one of the most challenging parts of the project, but the large beam didn't add as much cost as I'd expected and it turned out to be a really nice feature. Dave's work is in demand and since this was an interior job, he needed to complete some outdoor summer construction jobs for others before he could start working indoors for us. Even so, his estimated start date was pretty close to what he'd originally thought. He also used that time to think through design options. His work was completed within a week of starting and before snowfall. He also came in a little below estimate, as he had a few extra boards which he took back to the lumberyard and credited us with the savings. The new storage space gained by this work is huge - equal in area to two of the three bedrooms in our house. For a house that haves no basement and no attic storage, adding that much storage space to the garage is a real improvement. My wife tells me that I should have had the work done ten years ago, but we hadn't figured out how we could make this work until we talked with Dave.
Description of Work: Dave Jensen and his son constructed a heavy-duty 12' wide x 22' long storage loft covering one bay in my high-ceiling three-car garage, including a railing and wide access gate on the open 22' long side and attic stairs for entry near the back of the garage, then Dave's associate painted it all. Three sides of the loft are connected to walls and the longest side faces towards the two other garage bays - with a clear 22' span from the back garage wall to front garage wall. The bottom of the loft is elevated about 8' above the garage floor, a few inches above the existing garage door, with the garage door rails suspended from the new deck. Being able to continue to use the garage as a garage was an important requirement. I use the third garage bay as a shop, I but I wanted to preserve the option for the next homeowner to park an ATV, snow machine or a car there, and they can. The cost estimate I provided above includes all labor and materials, including Dave's quote and the paint and attic stairs that I chose to pick out and buy for the job myself.

I had to get an engineered glue lam beam to span the 22 feet, got the specs to carry a load 75 % more than the rating for a standard house floor, due to the fact that you don't know what someone might store up there. They could stack engine blocks up there and have it collapse if built weaker. We installed a attic access door that has a pull rope you just pull down and the stairs come down then unfold the bottom half of the stair ladder, very nice, with a 350 lbs rating to climb up to the storage area. Also built rails on the open side to code so you can't fall off the high platform, a gate in the center that opens 49 inches wide to slide stuff into the storage loft. It did turn out great and gave him 264 sq. ft. of deck to fill up with whatever he wanted. Like an extra one car garage above the car.

this house was messed up bad. we worked on baths and kitchen floor that the tenants, had not told the landlord about small slow leaks in plumbing valves and drains. I had to take up underlayment and even some sub-floor. installed new underlayment and new vinyl flooring in those areas. Had to wait for the cabinets to come in, which took a month. We just worked on many other jobs I have going while waiting for ordered materials to arrive. This lady is a repeat customer, she has a few rentals, and she said this place was the worst she had seen, the walls where just brown with greasy dirt, could not paint over them, also it looked like they used the walls for dart board all over the place, so we degreased them with zep and mops and sponges, in order for the primer to stick. holes in almost all the doors, which we replaced, mildew problems etc. Also painted the doors ,window frames, all trim and door frames bright white, different from walls. We fixed it up like new, installed new cabinets with 36 inch uppers, built new countertops on site with laminate edge and backsplash, microwave over range, new dishwasher, disposal , toilets, bath hardware, door knobs, cabinet pulls, and all new shut off valves at all sinks and toilets, replaced and added some shelves, closet bi-fold doors, new weather strips and door bottom seals on all exterior doors. She should get more rent for this house now, since it looks new inside now. Thanks for the work again and the good review, see you next time I'm sure

Went and bought all the materials for me with my knowledge of what he was buying and brought in the machine and blew insulation in and throughout my entire attic and since then my heating bills have gone down drastically!!! I AM PLEASED!!! With the service and my bill coming down by hundreds of dollars throughout the year. Job Well Done!
Description of Work: Came to my home and observed the attic in both my home and four-plex. He found that there was little and no insulation in the attics and informed me what I needed to do. Started the work the VERY NEXT DAY!! Impressed!

thanks for the review. We also installed three whirlybird attic roof ventilators, which is very important. What heat and moisture that does get in the attic, has to be able to get out. This lady is a long time repeat customer, and she has told me the heat bill has dropped dramatically, more than imagined. It should of been done years ago, it would have saved thousands of dollars. There where huge ice dams every winter and right over a handicap ramp, which would break loose in the spring, and damage the railings below, lucky not a person coming down the ramp. This building is a assisted and handicapped living home. The fourplex across the street was not in need as bad, it was up to code for insulation at the time r-19 value. The muni code is r-39 now, with more ventilation than they required back then too. We put in two whirlybird vents in that building. These older homes just do not have enough insulation, There are 1000's of them in town, and home owners just don't know that the attic insulation should be upgraded. It is not a very expensive job, pays for itself quickly. Customers are still calling me a lot now but it is getting to late for the outdoor work since I still have a month of it to do, it is better to call before the mad rush to beat winter.

Dave did a spectacular job on my deck. Various friends have commented on the beauty and superior quality of the deck construction. He does superb finish work. He and his small crew obviously knew what they were doing, which was a relief since I know nothing about construction and relied on his expert design ideas and recommendation of materials. He and his team worked quickly and efficiently, and I was able to work at my office with full confidence that the deck was being built to perfection while I was away. They were trustworthy and competent and didn't require any oversight or input from me. Dave stayed even-tempered and patient despite frustrating and unanticipated restrictions of the condo association that resulted in special orders (delaying the project 6 weeks), re-measuring, re-estimating, rescheduling and Dave making extra trips to Home Depot to exchange materials and supplies. A measurement error resulted in a shortage of 6 deck board at the end of the project, so Dave had to install a temporary piece of plywood at the threshold while waiting for the special order of the remaining boards to be shipped (delaying completion of the project for another 4-6 weeks). Due to the various project changes, confusion, and mis-communications with the condo board during the project, I did not fault Dave for the delay or the error, yet he gave me an unsolicited cost break to compensate for it. Dave also noticed a couple of other issues around my condo that needed repair. I mentioned that I had a hard time navigating the steep step at the entrance to my front door (resulting from a settling of the bottom concrete step), especially after having knee surgery. I came home from work one day to find that he had installed a short handrail that exactly matched the color of the condo exterior. He had a piece of handrail left over from a construction job and installed it for just the price of the two brackets. He also adjusted the fire door between my house and garage to get it to close tightly. These extra touches and considerations in addition to Dave's professionalism and expert construction skills are what give people like him a good reputation and keep him in business for decades. I would definitely use him again for future projects.

thank you for taking the time to give me a review. It is nice to get such wonderful satisfaction from my customers, since only about half the jobs I complete, take the time to write one up. This job was different to deal with, due to some of these condo associations have some off the wall rules. We could not use sono tube footings which is concrete piles 4 to 5 feet deep like we always do, the beam supports were concrete pier blocks with adjustable brackets just sitting on the ground. This is subjected to frost heave, but what could we do? condo rules. Also the condo rules would not let us use Brazilian walnut color composite deck boards, so we had to get a tan color that had to be special order. The reason we were short some boards was due to condo rules again we could not attach the deck to the building and had to leave the 28 inch by 8 ft. old deck that is cantilevered from the building, which is part of the building, so forgot to get enough deck boards for the additional sq. footage. I did not mind helping this lady get through her frustrations, in her dealings with the condo association, we had change the size of the deck on the bid/ plan three times, on width and depth. Finally got it all done and she told me her neighbors are in envy of the beautiful job, matching stain color for the railings and a privacy gate on the deck that's locks to keep the kids in or out.

Everything went well. Thankfully Dave and son Dave pay attention to detail. My house was originally built very sloppily during the boom of the '80's which resulted in nothing being level or square. The replaced windows look great and the new one he cut in adds so much light in the house, doors are now plumb, mantel he made from scratch is spot on level, etc. The fireplace repair was pretty interesting, once he got the sheetrock/tile off he discovered quite a lot of things that were originally done incorrectly and was able to repair all of them-I'm confident there will be no cold air issues this winter. His son Dave went the extra mile for me on the back porch repair once he heard me talking about my dog being able to get out under the deck. He built a frame and extended the siding down and added wood onto the existing deck that he stained to match the color of the new composite decking perfectly! I appreciate that they both had good ideas and made suggestions to me without making me feel like they were just wanting more money. In addition, they listened to me when I made suggestions. As in all home remodels, there were a few hiccups but Dave fixed them right up-a couple of kitchen tiles were gouged and a drill got dropped on my laminate wood floor. Fortunately I had spares and Dave had them replaced within a day of the mishaps.
Description of Work: I had a multitude of things that I wanted changed in my house. The front door and door coming in from the garage needed replacing, all the windows (7) needed replacing, and I wanted a new one cut in and installed. I wanted my French doors in the back converted to one regular door which required sheetrock, insulation, siding, etc. to fill in after the double doors were removed. I also had an issue with the fireplace not being sealed/insulated correctly which caused frigid air to rush in all winter long. Never had a fireplace mantel so why not get one now? The joists on my back porch were also starting to decay which Dave discovered while he was out giving me the estimate so we added that to the scope.

This house was built in the "boom" days, it did not even have 1/2 inch sheeting on the exterior of the house just cedar siding right over the studs. We had to install the windows right against the studs. The generous use of caulking and insulating foam was needed to get a good seal on the outside. We built the jamb extentions from primed pine not mdf particle board, foam insulate, with door and window foam, so as not to "bow" frames. We insulate the jambs also, some companies just insulate the window frame only, not us. She wanted to paint the inside frames and trim herself, since she is pretty handy at small repairs herself. Most of our door and window installations are ready for paint or stain when we are done, we spackle the nail holes, caulk along the window frame and the trim where it meets the wall, and of coarse the outside along the siding. This house had a fire at some point and had some rebuild contractor do the work. The combustable air intake pipe from the outside was not connected all the way into the gas fireplace, and not insulated at all, we opened up the outside wall and fixed the problem that I expected was the issue. So I think her years of not being able to use it are over, much better than ice on the inside of the house at the corner of the fireplace, and blueboard covering the whole thing like she had. Glad you love the mantle built above it and she texted me a picture of the brick facing that she installed on the sides and above the fireplace to the bottom of the mantle, it looked great. Thank you for the review and the compliments.

Services were conducted on-time and to the standard that was promised while staying in the cost range of the cost estimate. Dave is a professional that knows what he is doing and gives you relevant advice. He does not upsell, only tells you what your problem is and tells you what he can do to fix it in the long term. I would work with Dave again any day.

thank you for the review should have called Jensen construction the first time. This customer called me after a guy tore off all the sheetrock, visqueen and insulation of the bedroom wall in the master bedroom with vaulted ceilings. He thought the wall had a condensation problem or leaked around the window. I looked at it when it was all removed and asked the guy if he had checked the attic. He said no and I checked it out, it had r-19 insulation up there code is now r-38. The attic had a roof that went two directions and the front area over the wall that was torn open had hardly any ventilation. In the attic where the roof lines changed, the roof sheeting came down the rafters inside the attic blocking the two roof cavities apart from each other. I couldn't even crawl into the front area to blow the insulation in, so I cut big holes out so the two areas could breathe. The problem was, heat getting into the attic, due to under insulation and no ventilation in that area. That cause frost build up, then the weather warmed up a bit and it defrosted causing water and condensation plus mildew. He also had ice dams. I Insulated to a min of r-38 fiberglass blow in, not cellulose, which is in most homes over ten years old, after installing baffles first, which go in at the eaves inside the attic so you do not blow the insulation over the eave vent screens which will block off the air flow from eave to peak. The reason we put whirlybird ventilators in was, the home had some vent-a ridge installed, but after a foot or so of snow, they do not vent much at all. The raised stack whirlybirds turbine vents, vent all the time and most all new homes are getting them now, plus after the record snow two years ago, I had many people calling due to water damage from ice dams, to the walls, floors, cabinets ect. Many insurance claims. After that winter, places all over town were getting whirlybirds install in homes, apts, condos. So insulation plus ventilation has to be done to fix these common problems, not one or the other, both issues must be addressed, not just one. Doing these two things in your attic will save you a bundle on heat bills and keep the home cooler in the summer. The job will pay for itself in time and save everthing in the attic eg: roof sheeting. sheetrock on the ceiling, ice dams and water and shingle damage, from slow destruction. The customer has told me that that heat bill has gone down and is happy with the results of the work we did on his duplex. I have tried to explain this common problem to the best of my ability, hope it helps folks out understand it better.
Dave and his crew are very conscientious. Took extra steps to make sure job was done correctly, such as removing old flooring (3 layers of linoleum) and putting in new sub-floor in the bathroom and removing old flooring in the kitchen before laying the new linoleum. Kitchen was completed in 4 days - and is absolutely beautiful. I had a problem with the new ceiling fan, it shut off and wouldn't come back on. He came out the same day that I called him to check out the problem. I highly recommend Dave and his crew, and will call him again for any future work I might decide to do. His prices are very reasonable and he gave me a full breakdown of what he was charging for.
Description of Work: He re-did area where plumbing was for new addition (had a problem with bathtub drain freezing every winter). Replaced linoleum in entryway and bathroom, painted entryway, complete kitchen overhaul - new linoleum, new cabinets, installed ceiling fan, removed old wallpaper and painted walls and ceiling,.

always love to have a satisfied customer. I sure have been getting flooded with calls from angies list members, asking for bids. I have stated before, that I am a small family business, my son and I. I do have one helper on some jobs, but mostly he just does laborer work. I am a perfectionist and a lot of jobs I cannot even use a laborer. We are highly skilled at what we do, and there is no room for sub-standard workers on my jobs. I can barely keep up with the calls and jobs we get, so Im booked up, up two months out by mid summer, and into the fall. I just tell customers up front how long they will have to wait, I can come out and bid the job soon then put the customer on my list of to do's jobs after we agree for me to do the job, if they need a job done sooner than I can get there they can call some other company or I can try to recommend someone else. I can only do what I can do, and appreciate the folks that have to wait on my list of jobs. This customer was very understanding and I moved my schedule around a little bit to get her new kitchen installed while they were out of town. As you can see we are very diverse in the construction field, I can just about do anything, but not everything. Just call and I will let you know. Thank you for the review.
