Giant Don's Flooring America

I went to Giant Don’s in March 2022. When I was connected with a salesperson, I was very specific that I wanted LVP. The salesperson took me to the LVP area. I found several pieces that I liked and took the samples home. I selected the one that I like best. I went back to the store and showed the salesperson what I selected. At mo time did then salesperson state that the flooring was not LVP. The salesperson did indicate that that particular vinyl required different installation. This was my first time selecting flooring. I ordered the flooring on March 26, 2022. One month later I was informed that they did not have enough of this flooring in stock and it would have to be manufactured and it would be 6-8 weeks for delivery. I finally received the flooring in late May. When my installer saw the flooring he informed me that the flooring was not LVP and the method for install would be totally different than LVP. He stated that it was flooring for more industrial use, like a hospital. He also stated it would be a longer install process than LVP, which would increase the price significantly. I contacted Giant Don’s. They came and picked it up. When I purchased the flooring, my daughter was with me (thankfully). There was a problem with my new payment card (Apple Card). My daughter had me put it on her card (REI bennies!!!). I then got home and transferred the funds to my daughter’s account. Now I am trying to get a refund. Because the charges were put on my daughter’s account she contacted Giant Don’s and she wanted them to just give the refund to me since I paid my daughter in full. The salesperson took the credit receipt showing 1 refund for Alterna in the amount of $10,780.45, please issue check. When the salesperson took the credit receipt for approval she was told that could not happen. I spoke with some higher up person and he said they could not give the funds to me and the he said, I could not be given a full refund, and it could not be given to me, even though they have all of the flooring and will be selling it at some point. I told him that I could give him proof that I paid my daughter. He stated it made no difference. Giant Don’s stated that they had to send the check to my daughter. Giant Don’s management said they were going to call me last Wednesday, June 22, to date, no call. Today I was looking at Giant Don’s web site and something caught my eye. They give a 5% senior discount! Not to me and I am 74 years old. Giant Don’s did not do the installation.

They were late in starting so had to come back the next day, but things generally went well. Looks nice. We thought we would be able to get a special order carpet within a week or so but then found it would take 5-8 weeks to order - misunderstood or were misled at our first visit - so went with one that was in stock. All in all, the place looks so much better than before so happy with the work.

Fabulous. I have very high expectations and those expectations were met.

Quality of installation is a D. I don't recommend them for anybody. We spent over $18,000 for flooring from these guys. It took them a year to finish it up. We've had to have them come back and fix things. There's other stuff that need to be fix but I don't want to go there and deal with these people anymore. They sent different installers every time. Their installers are contractors for them and they are low bid, so you end getting these guys that work for other flooring company's and they are not accountable. Giant Don's doesn't hold them accountable.

It went great! Gabby and his wife (contractors hired from Giant Don's) did an amazing job with our floors. They were quick and efficient and cleaned up after themselves. Our new luxury vinyl floors look amazing!

There was nothing in particular that I disliked. There was a little bit of problem in the communication time but other than that, everything was fine. The products and the service were good. My interaction with them was very good. The work turned out good. I had them come back and they were prompt to come back and fix it.

We looked at various samples in the store on Old Seward Highway, Anchorage, AK. We were allowed to take samples to the house to see how they would look in various areas. Jeremy Fogg who was the project manager assigned stated he would measure the home square footage and prepare an estimate. Jeremy arrived at the appointed time and did the survey, took the details and said he would calculate an estimate. March 12, 2016 we returned to the store for the estimate. After getting a sum for the job we asked about various discounts. Jeremy checked with his supervisor and did good, getting the cost down a bit. However, we were still not ready for an agreement. We ended talking to the owner of the business who was willing to meet us "half way" so to speak, and we agreed upon a final offer from us. Jeremy ordered the carpet on the 14th of March and gave us a 4-6 week delivery window. Within 4 weeks it arrived and installation was scheduled for April 4. The installers/workers arrived as scheduled and were prompt and went right to work. I felt they were very adept at their trade and they used 2 days for the main install. On the 11th of April the installer returned and finished the final room. The reason for delay was due to us having to move all our furniture into one room, then move it back, and then finish that room used for temporary storage. The provider and installers had agreed to this ahead of time. During the project, all old carpet and padding was removed and disposed of, the bare floors were scraped, and vacuumed to properly prepare for carpet. All the transition strip we purchased were also put into place by the installer. The total project was excellent in quality and workmanship. Thanks to Jeremy Fogg, Giant Don's owner on Old Seward, and Jose' the installer. We were satisfied that we had not gone with various offers from other suppliers after comparing them to Don's services and warranties

Excellent!! We repainted our home and the painters took a few days longer than planned. Giant Don's rep showed up each day to check the progress of the painters. Giant Don's installed the carpeting the day after the painters were done. We are VERY happy with their work, and love walking barefoot on the new plush carpeting.

Installed new carpeting within one week of order. Completed job in a single day. Everything laid out as expected, no need to return to house for anything. Very professional job; no mess left behind. Good pricing.

Horrible. We have a realtor box on the door. The installers were given a code to access the box to obtain the key to enter our home. They were the only people to access our home that day. That evening when I came home, tools, 2 gas cans, and other items were stolen. I contacted the General Manager, who did nothing. I will be filing a police report. I suggest if you chose Giant Dons, that you be home for the install.

For my tile purchases, a representative of Giant Don's came to my home and measured the walls and floors to determine how much tile would be needed. The representative was very professional and well qualified. For the carpet, I had a small area of carpeting I needed to install. The price for the carpeting and padding was very competitive; the installation was well done. I have pre-purchased the same carpet and padding for another room; I won't be needed this carpet for a year, but they offered a great price and were willing to reserve the product for me now, at the special price for later delivery and installation. I have been very happy with Giant Don's over the three years that I have been doing business with them.

After a recommendation from a business associate and reading good reviews here on Angie's List, I decided to employ Giant Don's to redo the flooring in our bathroom. I went in with measurements in hand and a good idea of what I was looking for. A consultant named Brittany was very helpful in directing me to samples I might be interested in, and offering to come to my home, take measurements, and arrange for the job. After supplying my name and contact information I brought some samples home. They proved not to be what I was looking for, so I returned them the next day. The following week I had time to go through samples again and returned to the store, again provided my information, and brought home more samples. Having found what I was looking for, I returned the samples the next day and spoke with Brittany. She clearly didn't remember having spoken with me before (in fairness it had been two weeks). Believing it to be her day off I had left the specifics of what I wanted at home, so we agreed that I would text her that information later that day and she would then check availability and then get back to me to arrange the next steps for the project. I was surprised that she didn't take any more information from me - she didn't write down my name, address, phone number, or anything about the job. I dutifully texted her the information within a few hours, and she texted me back that she would give me a call after checking the stock. I have quite simply never heard from her again; it has been nearly 6 weeks. Had she lost her cell phone she could have found my name and number in the book where my borrowing of samples had been recorded (or had she written down any of my information she would have had that to refer to); I can only assume that my small job didn't warrant the time or attention.

It was fine. They had what we wanted so we ended up with the purchase. They are reasonable to work with.

I was compltely satisfied from the salesperson, who was very knowledgeable and listened well. The installers were exemplary.

They were great from the beginning! I appreciated their advice and the fact that they let me keep a few samples during the selection process to make certain I got the right carpet and color. Since I wanted to do painting first, they were wonderful about working with me to hold the carpet (which came promptly) until the painting was done first. Then they came as scheduled, helped remove the heavy furniture, and got all the old carpet out and the new carpet installed on the same day. It was beautiful, and they cleaned up everything before they left. I would use them again - - exclusively - - without even looking elsewhere. And I'd recommend them to anyone looking for good carpet and great service.

The salesperson, Sally showed me a range of carpet with pros and cons for each and helped with my decision. The person who installed the carpet was punctual and worked fast. He was polite and professional.

Giant Don's is the second retailer I visited to discuss my flooring project. I recently purchased a home which had 3/4" solid Brazilian Cherry flooring in the living room and dining room and grey shag carpet in the den and bedroom on the rest of the upper floor. The lower floor with three bedrooms was all grey shag. I wanted to finish out the main floor with hardwood and match as closely as possible the hardwood flooring that was already there. The first retailer I visited immediately told me it wouldn't work, it wouldn't match, it would be too expensive, they already had a different product in stock that would look just as good, etc. They did not listen to what I wanted to accomplish but went straight to the sell. I then went to Giant Don's and started again to describe what I wanted to accomplish. The sales associate Brittany did not interrupt, but listened to what I wanted to do. She then patiently showed me many samples and after some time we selected a few that might work. She showed me a wide variety of samples without reference to any price differences and did not push one product over another. She came out to my house the next day and we laid the samples on the floor to see which one was the closest match. One of them jumped out as a near exact match. She measured the house throughout and agreed to provide an upstairs and whole house quote the next day. I received the quotes promptly as promised and then considered various configurations based on pricing and budget. Ultimately I decided to install 3/4" solid hardwood upstairs and engineered hardwood downstairs. This would enable me to have a seamless match to what was already installed upstairs and save a good bit of money by installing a less expensive product downstairs. To save a bit more, I decided to leave the carpet in the two spare bedrooms downstairs. It was a good, balanced decision reached based on valuable assistance and options provided for my review. I received a discount for cash payment and waited a few weeks for the product to be shipped. The installers showed up last Thursday. They spent three days installing the engineered flooring downstairs and another three days and a little bit more installing the solid flooring upstairs. Both products are beautiful and were patiently and expertly installed. Given the shading variations in Brazilian Cherry, the installers did a great job of mixing and matching the shading differences and the various lengths. Upstairs, you can't tell where the old flooring ends and the new flooring begins. I could not be happier with the product, the sales, the service or the installation. Perhaps I might have saved a few dollars by shopping around more. However, by doing business with Giant Don's, I dealt with a retailer that delivered exactly what I wanted and asked for rather than attempting to push something else on me. They were professional, courteous, prompt and efficient from beginning to end. Iam delighted with the results.

Giant Don gave us a great price on flooring for our new home. His price allowed us to upgrade the carpet for the original allowance cost. The owner and his staff are quite friendly, communicate well and very responsive to any questions or problems. I was so happy with the service that I had them remove and replace the carpet in another house that is on the market. They gave me a great price as a repeat customer and pushed to get the job done in time for open house. I cannot say enough about Giant Don's. They are helpful, fair, informative and not pushy. I highly recommend this company and will use them again.

We have 3 labrador retriever dogs so when we replaced our carpet with hardwood floor we were not quite sure what to go with. We were in there a lot. They were so patient, helpful, and let us take many samples home to decide. They guy finally came and laid the floor and it is durable and waterproof like they said and we are still as pleased now as the day it was installed.

It went fine. We installed the flooring ourselves. We just checked around the price of the laminate flooring and they had a good price on the particular product. We just ordered and picked it up. They were just a volume flooring type of place and there was nothing fancy. We would probably use them again.

They went out of their way to brainstorm ideas on what could be done to repair it and where the products necessary for the repair could be located in Anchorage. They also recommended someone who might be able to help me with the repair. They did all of this even though I hadn't even purchased the countertop at their store. I would definitely go to them for my future countertop installation needs.

I would give them an A for excellent.

The carpeting was really nice. They had the best price. The installation was great. They were very professional and fast.

The carpet and the floor are fine but the granite countertop they did put in, that is not a special thing. They did a good job on the floor and carpet. It was a contractor they hired to come and do the countertop and I work away from home, so I had my mom come and overlook it. He kind of snapped at her and it kind of got ugly there. From what I understand after he did the job at my house, he was no longer employed by them. They honored doing the countertop and returning the money to me, and they also got rid of the guy.
