They were all courteous and efficient. I have not gone up on the roof to look it over but will do that or have someone do it for me when it's convenient. I was happy they found no rotted wood. I would recommend Earhart to others who are searching for a good and reliable roofer. Also, I'm grateful to Angie's for the 5% off coupon. It sure did help. |
Description of Work: Although I called them late in the season, and they were busy, they said they would squeeze me in. Mike, of Earhart, came over on Oct. 25, 2013 and went up on the roof and took pictures. He said he would mail the estimate to me and would call me when they got a break from their busy schedule. I got a call on Nov. 8, 2013 and was told they had a cancellation and could come over that day at around 9 AM. I said OK. They were on time and backed their big trucks up to the house and discarded pieces of the old roof into the trucks. They were careful to cover the area around the house to protect it from the hot tar, and left the place cleaned up They worked from 9 AM to around 3:15 PM and completed the whole roof. There was quite a team (I believe there were 12 men) who worked on the roof to completion.

It had been a fairly dry summer this year but as soon as we got our first real dumping of rain my roof began to leak in a few places. I called Earhart to patch the roof. To his credit, he told me over the phone it would cost me $300 which I agreed to If I could get the water to stop pouring into the house. When the guys showed up, this is how it went from start to finish: The guys get out and greet me, courteous fellows, and went up on the roof. I follow them. They look around and tell me that THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PATCH THE ROOF (which as you will recall was my main objective that day) because it was damaged in too many areas and will need to be totally replaced. He told almost verbatim: "Don't worry, I will write this up as an estimate and you will not be charged for this service call since we did nothing." They then left. A total of about 15 minutes from start to finish. The rain poured off and on (and into my house) for a week as I waited for the estimate. Finally I called and inquired about it and they did send it. It was high and I got a few more estimates and went with Premier Roofing who was $2000.00 cheaper and highly rated on Angie's List. (I'll be reviewing them when the job is done). I initially disregarded the bill from Earhart when I first received it in the mail thinking it was some mistake, but when I received a collection call I explained to them the situation almost exactly as was explained here whereupon I was told: "I told you it would be $300 when you called for service work" I responded: "They did no work!" I was then told about the cost of fuel and man hours etc. About them having to leave another job (in the pouring rain mind you) to make the call. I paid them, but I feel that the way I was handled was dishonest. If the men on the 'job site' could not level that what they had done should be considered work worthy of the pay then what am I paying for? Judge for yourself, I've been wrong before. This is in fact how I was handled.

Response from Earhart Roofing Company Inc
All customers are informed of our $300.00 service call minimum. This is a flat fee for us to send out a 2-man crew with a truck, tools and material for the first hour. The service call fee is charged whether we are able to patch and repair a leak or even it turns into an investigation situation where we find plumbing or siding or whatever other reason is causing the leak. Warranties are not provided unless it is for a re-roof or new roof. We do not offer free service calls and are not aware of other companies that do. When the Patch and Repair Crew arrived at the home, the crew and homeowner looked at the roof and realized any repairs would supersede the $300.00 minimum since the roof was in such ill repair. At that point, Earhart Roofing offered to give a complimentary re-roof estimate which the homeowner agreed to. We provided an estimate for a re-roof and let the customer know that if he opted to accept the proposal the $300.00 service call would be waived. After trying to collect the original invoice over a month after billing, we verbally offered to split the bill which did not even cover our costs. The customer agreed and paid $150.00 not $300.00.

It was great from start to finish - very responsive, professional and friendly company to deal with. I got bids from four roofing companies and chose Earhart based on a variety of reasons, one of which was their reviews on Angie's List. Pricewise they were on the upper end, but not the most expensive. Mike let me take home as many sample shingle boards as I wanted and gave advice on which would work best with my house colors. It's difficult to tell from a small shingle board what it will look like covering an entire roof - Mike thought my initial choice wasn't the best, so he gave me the address of a home that had those shingles - I did a drive by and he was so correct, it would not have been a good choice for me. The job was done in two days and the crew cleaned up everything when they were done - no muss or fuss. They billed me after being sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. Excellent experience working with Earhart and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I selected this company because of the reviews I read on your website and they did work for my sister after last year's windstorm. She was very pleased with the work they did, their responsiveness and professionalism. This all started due to a leak at the front of my (mobile) home, which caused damage to the ceiling. I had a torch down done by another provider, which stopped the leak, and was informed the overall condition of the roof was very poor. I was told not to let anyone walk on the roof it was so bad. I forget the exact date I contacted Earhart. My information was taken and I had a proposal a little over a week later . Work started a few days after my acceptance. The crew arrived at 8am at my home. They worked steadily from the time they started and finished the job around 2pm. The foreman diid speak to me because the vent above the water heater was apparently not anchored properly and there was some rot. He said I would need to have a plumber fix that. I appreciated his letting me know about this problem. He also took a moment to answer a question about maintenance, specifically snow removal. I am very happy with the overall experience with this company. I would contact them again for any roof work I would need done.

I called Earhart roofing to find and repair a leak in my roof. I was told that $300 would get me 2 guys on my roof working for an hour. The workers came and were curteous but they were in a hurry. They were at my house for about 20 minutes total. They said they found a small hole in the caulking around my chimney and recaulked that area and said that it should be okay, they also advised that my roof was in great shape. They didn't come into my house afterwards to check to see if the leak had stopped which surprised me, again they were in a hurry. At the next big rain the leak reappeared at the exact same spot. I called Earhart roofing to see if they would come to re-check their work. I was told that I would have to pay $300 again. I could understand this if they had given a good effort the first time around but they did not. Earhart roofing does not stand behind their work and they seem more interested in moving on to the next job and next dollar than in doing a good job for their customers.

Response from Earhart Roofing Company Inc
We received a call from [member name removed] on August 22nd about a roof leak down a beam in her house. We explained to [member name removed] that we have a minimum $300.00 service call fee which gives her two men for up to one hour each and the roofing materials. If it takes longer than an hour there is a 75.00 per man hour fee and there may be extra materials charges involved. She agreed to this. The next day we sent two experienced journeymen roofers to her home. Our employees met with [member name removed], set up the ladder and inspected the roof where the leak was coming into the house. They discovered what they thought was the problem and sealed the chimney. We do not go into people’s homes to check if the leak has stopped as it always takes a few hours for the it to stop because the water has to get out of the system; meaning the framing members, insulation, vapor barrier, ect. The leak obviously did stop because it has rained nearly 5 inches between 08/23/2013 and 08/11/2013 (in fact NOAA says that this is the third most rainy stretch of weather since they started keeping track of rainfall) and we did not receive a single call from [member name removed] during that time. When she did call yesterday she asked if we warranty our patches and repairs and stand behind our work. We explained to her that if we put on a new roof we will provide a five year workmanship warranty (industry standard is two years), and that if it leaks we will chase that leak at no charge to the homeowner. We explained that we cannot warrant other peoples work. If patches always worked nobody would ever need a new roof! We did tell [member name removed] that there would be an additional charge for going back. We have always made allowances if a patch fails due to the fact we are trying to seal to old roofing, old paint, old siding, and old metal and always do so at a reduced rate. One other thing I will mention is that [member name removed] has still not paid her original invoice which we mailed to her on August 26th, 2013. Maybe it is time for an Angie’s customer list! I had the topper blow off the pipe from my old furnace in a wind storm. The pipe is plugged at the bottom and not used by my new furnace. I called Earhart Roofing and explained what happened and I was worried that water might be getting into the pipe with no where to go. In a couple hours I got a call from the owner, he told me they had a $300 minimum and that would replace the topper, but for a bit more they could cut off the old pipe and cover the hole with metal and then new shingles. I chose that route as I don't want to worry about the top blowing off again, seems to happen to a couple houses on my street every year, lots of wind. Two workers showed up the next morning to see what color shingles I had. They went to buy matching shingles and returned quickly. They got to work quickly and even replaced shingles that had blown off in a previous storm. They were done and gone before I knew it. They cleaned up after themselves and were very courteous. I will use them again if I need roofing services.
Description of Work: Remove old furnace pipe, install sheet metal over the hole and replace missing shingles.

Earhart Roofing was contracted to remove and replace the roof on my house and attached garage. The crew arrived on time. They were very courteous and professional. After taking off the old roofs they pointed out areas that needed to be addressed prior to application of the new roof. They found that the garage roof underlayment did not need to be completely removed thus saving me a considerable amount of money. They also installed baffles to facilitate airflow which the previous roofer had not done. I had done some research on the quality of materials needed and found that they provide only top of the line products. The day was extremely hot but the crew did not slack off and worked at a steady pace throughout the day. The only break they took was for lunch which was at a logical place to stop. As a homeowner I was very impressed with their work ethic and insisted on providing water and refreshment throughout the hot day. I had to throw the water up to them as they did not want to stop work to come and get it. The crew was friendly, clean-up was thorough and they left out yard as clean as it was when they arrived. All in all i am completely satisfied with the quality of work and the reasonable price and their honesty in not doing unnecessary work. I highly recommend Earhart Roofing, especially for hot roof systems. I would definitely contract them again.

I was really impressed with the tear off crew(who did most of the construction part of the job) and the installation crew(who put down the shingles and did the finish work). They were on time and ready to work each day. Everyone seemed to know their job-no yelling back and forth-no standing around watching the other guys work-just production!! They cleaned-up very well including placing plastic around the house and using a roller magnet at the end of the job to pick-up any nails and staples. I am delighted with the result!!!
Description of Work: Removed old roofing/ Removed plywood along eves on 4 sides of roof to cut out 2x4 blocking between roof joists and install bug screen for air circulation and install new plywood.(not done by builder). Tear out and completely rebuild chimney box on top of roof. Fabricated a sheet metal waterproof cover for the chimney box which was already painted the color of my trim. Fabricated a sheet metal piece(coping) to cover an protruding glu-lam beam-also painted. Installed upgraded, algae resistant, 130mph shingles along with ridge vents which the roof didn't have in the past.

Called Earhart roofing on May 29th, estimator showed up on Saturday June 1st and went through the work that needed to be done and his recommendation on what path I should take. I faxed them the signed work order on June 5th. Crew showed up about 3pm on 6/12, removed the ridge vents, installed the new shingle over ridge vent system, and hauled off the old ridge vents and were gone by 430pm. Did an excellent job in cleaning up, did a good roof inspection, and were very friendly and communicative. Would definitely recommend Earhart Roofing to anybody needing work done.

I had had problems with a winter leak for an number of years. The owner, Frank, sent his son out. He located the problem, repaired it, and said he hadn't spent enough time to charge me! The following year I had them replace the roof. The job was done quickly and in a professional manner. Still satisfied with the job.

I just want to say that I appreciate Earhart's recommendation that I try improved insulation before considering a new roof. I have had an ice dam/interior leaking problem for a few winters now, and one local roofer recently recommended a complicated new roof for about $22,000 without spending too much time examining my existing roof (which is covered with snow) and crawl space. I found Earhart on Angie's List to get a second opinion and their representative did a much more thorough study of my problem and suggested I call Alas.Co (also on Angie's List) and see about improved insulation rather than a whole new roof. The insulation job has just been completed and if this solves my problem I have Earhart to thank for saving me a ton of money and leading me to a more sensible solution.

Contrary to other roofing contractors, Earhart picked up the phone every time I called. I explained that I had a roof leak every time t rained and was windy. We had a small window of opportunity to inspect and repair the roof since the Chinook winds had just melted all the snow. They came early the next day as scheduled and fixed the problem in less than 20 minutes. All that was needed was to replace the caulking on windows in the roof and around the chimney. I'm happy that it was a cheap fix. A previous contractor had suggested I needed to replace the entire roof!

Called three Angie's List roofing contractors. Earhart was the only one that could offer to come out in less than a month to fix. $300 was steep, but since they would come and repair it in a timely fashion, worth the price. (note: there was a huge amount of roofing repair going on in Anchorage at that time due to the Sept wind storms.) 2 workmen arrived after a call and spent 15-20 minutes re-nailing ridge vent and chalking nail holes. Friendly and professional. A week or so later after looking up in the attic, I noticed light coming from nail holes around the re-nailed roof vent (probably hard to see all the holes initially). Called Earhart and another 2 workmen arrived in a day or two. They worked with me until no light could be seen from the attic. Again professional and friendly service. The only thing that happened after that was another bill arrived for $200. Called about it and was told that it was a mistake and to ignore it. Overall very satisfied with the the prompt service and the workmen even with the rather high price, but again that was due to the high demand at that time.
